Halfords Group 0+/1/2 Child Car Seat Fitting Instructions

How to fit your Halfords Group 0/1/2 car seat

Here we show you step-by-step how to fit your Halfords Essential Group 0/1/2 car seat.

Before installing any car seat with a seat belt, inspect the entire length of the seatbelt and buckle for any signs of wear and tear or damage. If you find any damage, do not use this belt to attach your car seat.

Group 0 (birth to 10kg)

  1. Open the wedge that's located underneath the child seat so that it swings into place with the large portion of the wedge to the front of the child seat.
  2. Recline the seat by squeezing the grey handle underneath the harness strap on the front of the seat, then pivot the seat until the indicator arrow on the side of the seat rests in the blue position four marker. Remove the comfort insert from the seat and place it to one side.
  3. There needs to be an angle of between 45 and 65 degrees where the child would be sitting. Pass the lap belt over the top of the child seat and through the cut out in the side where the child's lap would be, towards the buckle side of the vehicle following the blue fabric indicators.
  4. Ensure the seatbelt is flat and smooth with no twists or folds. Click the seatbelt into the buckle, pass the diagonal shoulder portion of the seatbelt around the rear of the child seat from buckle side to non-buckle side, placing the seat belt into the recessed channels indicated by the arrows behind the fabric on the rear of the child seat.
  5. Pass the diagonal portion of the seatbelt through the retaining clip indicated by a blue fabric tab on the top of the seat on the non-buckle side of the seat. Transfer the slack around from buckle side to non-buckle side ensuring the seatbelt routing remains flat and smooth.
  6. Test that the seat is installed to the correct tension by pressing towards the top of the child seat in a sharp motion towards the front of the car seat. There should be no excessive forward or sideward movement. If there is excessive movement, repeat tightening the seatbelt until the correct tension is acquired.
  7. Replace the comfort insert into the child seat. Slide the open clip over the shoulder part of the seatbelt down towards the buckle. Leave approximately two fingers' width between the buckle and the clip.

Group 1 (9kg to 18kg)

  1. Close the wedge located underneath the child seat so that it swings into place with the large portion of the wedge to the rear of the child seat. Pivot the seat until the indicator arrow on the side rests in one of the three red positions.
  2. The back of the child seat needs to be in contact with at least two thirds of the vehicle seat, if it's not remove the headrest.
  3. Pass the seat belt through the back of the child seat from the non-buckle side to the buckle side. Pass it behind the fabric and through the moulded plastic backrest following the red indicators.
  4. Click the seatbelt into the buckle. Locate the red retaining clip attached to the child seat on a wire and open it up. To tension the seatbelt, pull the shoulder belt up from the buckle to remove any slack from the lap belt.
  5. Slide the open clip over the shoulder part of the seatbelt down towards the buckle. Leave approximately two fingers' width between the buckle and the clip. Fasten the catch on the clip and test the tension is correct by pulling the harness of the child seat in a sharp motion towards the front of the car seat. There should be no excessive forward or sideward movements.
  6. Group 2 (15kg to 25kg)

    1. Close the wedge located underneath the child seat so that it swings into place with the large portion of the wedge to the rear of the child seat.
