If you're heading on a getaway or cycling adventure, then a bike rack (also known as a cycle carrier) is a safe and simple way of getting everyone's wheels to where they need to be.
Bike racks fit onto your car's exterior, usually on the back, but can also be fitted onto your roof bars. Bike racks don't take much effort to attach to your vehicle and, as well as freeing up space inside your vehicle, they also keep dirty bikes away from the back seats.
How do bike racks work?
Bike racks attach to the exterior of the vehicle using strong and durable straps that usually fit around the car's boot lid, or a system that uses your car's towbar to fasten it securely in place. As well the extra-strong durable straps, the boot lid or towbar itself prevents the bike rack from detaching or moving around when travelling. Bike racks can easily be removed when not in use too, thanks to clips and adjusters that make getting it off at the other end easy.
If you're using a roof bar-mounted cycle carrier, then the system will likely use adjustable grips or potentially a screw-on system to keep everything in place.
How do I get my bike rack fitted?
You're welcome to fit a bike rack yourself. We've even got a handy guide to get you started! However, if you don't have the time / tools / desire to do it yourself, we can fit your bike rack for you.
Bike rack fitting is just £20/€24, and our expert fitters will show you how it's done so that you can do it yourself next time. Our fitting service also includes building the bike rack out of the box, so that next time you need to use it'll be set up and ready to go.
We can also fit roof bars and a roof mounted cycle carrier at the same time, for just £35/€42.
