Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.Rated 5 out of 5 by Lyvervet Excellent bright torch These are excellent torches with a bright focussed beam that allows me to see my black Labrador dog at night even at twenty yards or more. Although sold as a wind-up torch, it is best charged (and re-charged) via one of the USB plugs. And one word of advice, charge it up once a monthe during the summer or you may find the battery dies on you early in the winter..... 19 October 2015Rated 4 out of 5 by SensiblePaul One of the best Dynamo torches I've had this for around 8 months now so have a good gauge of its pros and cons. I bought it for use in attic mostly and for the rare emergency situations and will buy one for the car too. Wind up feature is what won it for me I wanted a torch that if the power goes at home I can always wind up and be guaranteed light even if the batteries run flat. Never mind the silly wind up instructions, to charge and maintain the battery just simply connect the torch to a USB port on a PC, PS3 or Xbox etc for about 4 hours every 3 months which is only 4 times a year and the thing will always work 100% perfect, of course if you use it for a few hours in between then charge it after use. I would view the wind up feature as a great fall back in emergency situations but otherwise just plug it in like any other rechargeable device. My only gripes with it is that the red button to select the brighter mode cannot be permanently selected and so you have to keep it pressed constantly down for it to work. You cannot simply tape the button down as this will turn on the bright torch regardless of the torch being off.. so it doesnt allow much flexibility in terms of leaving it on a shelf etc to illuminate a job your doing unless the duller light setting is enough and in most cases it is. The only other thing I'd peg it for is that unlike many other torches, the lamp has no joint to articulate in any other direction so you have to prop it up on someting should you need to put the torch down yet need the light to point up or down at an area but I can forgive it those couple of faults for its usefulness. Great torch all round. 24 February 2015Rated 4 out of 5 by Wystman Wind up LED I bought this alongside a PowerPlus lantern which is also a wind up. There's no comparison in terms of brightness - the Halford wins hands down. It's lightweight and seems quite robust. My only reservation is that you can't put it on full beam by pressing the red button which is odd. The instructions say wind up for an hour beforehand - good luck with that! Otherwise thumbs up. 25 November 2014Rated 4 out of 5 by PeterGo Irritating and avoidable marketing / documentation features 3 points 1. After just a little use I found some kind of greasy substance had leaked from the housing at the base of the wind-up handle. Fearing a battery leak, I exchanged the spotlight, only to find that the replacement did the same. Halford's staff 'guessed' that this was lubricating grease and was quite normal. If so, it would have been useful if this feature were noted in the 'Instruction Manual'. 2. The 'Technical Information' on the packaging contains the instruction '...wind the light for 1 hour before first use' ! Really? One hour of continuous winding? Come on, Halfords, who does your packaging proof reading? 3. Apart from the above, it seems a useful and reasonably-priced product. I'll be interested to see how long it functions for in my application, being in use for 2 mins / day, every day. 13 October 2014Rated 5 out of 5 by Troubleatmill Great piece of kit Great value for money this wind-up lamp ... it's really bright over quite a distance and no batteries required !! 07 October 2014Rated 3 out of 5 by snibby Found the winding hard work Although a well made product, for me [a woman] the winding was a little difficult so exchanged it for a battery operated torch. 05 September 2014Rated 5 out of 5 by Rosie93 Definitely a good buy I needed a good torch because I go camping with the Cub Scouts quite often, and need a reliable torch to get me through the weekend. This one requires no batteries, so you don't have to worry about bringing spares, if it starts to dull, you just give it a couple of minutes of winding and it's right back to full brightness. It comes with a handy shoulder strap so if you don't need it you can just sling it onto your back without having to worry about losing it, it's also quite light, so carrying it around isn't a problem. It was relatively inexpensive considering how bright it is, and it's sturdy and looks like it will last me a lot more camping trips! Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a good quality torch! 13 May 2014Rated 5 out of 5 by Bettyw This product is great We purchased this product because we were going walking on uneven ground during the night time. It is perfect and we are very happy with the product. The unit has held the charge well and is still giving a great light almost 2 weeks after being charged. 23 October 20131-8 of 8
