Brake Shield Bundle is rated out of 5 by 1.Rated 4 out of 5 by JemPot from Tricky to start, but then comes into its own as a good buy! Hi, Ref the brake shield itself, I understand it primarily helps keep the oil & muck your degreasing away from your disc brake. However, I've used this on a road bike, with no disc brake, and found it equally beneficial to keep all the mess off the wheel and hub etc, stopping dirt spray flicking off in many directions - yes you might still get covered, but that's down to how you clean your drive train, i.e. what brush & direction you clean etc. Once you get used to this item, it can be a great intermediate clean for your bikes drive train, (well the rear part of it anyway). A proper and full clean means taking the wheels off and getting stuck in, but if you just want to clean the harmful grit off the important bits, this is a more convenient way of doing it. Note: this is still usable if you remove the wheel too, and just want to give your cassette a good going over. At 1st I found the chain caught the edges of the shield, but soon realised the shield had become curved for some reason, so with some flattening out (bending), I was able to spin the chain backward and get the job done. As per the instructional videos on YouTube etc, it helps if create a bit of space between your chain and the shield, but using a high gear, near the bottom of the cassette - away from the spokes & the shield. Ref the spray cleaners (sold as separately), there is an overlooked advantage of the high pressure spray literally shifting some of the muck from the hard to reach places, so although the aerosols might not seem like a good idea at 1st, they have their advantages, and the products themselves are also good at what they do, making them actually worth buying in conjunction with the shield. As I say, this is great for quick clean, where time is important, as it allows you to be quick, liberal and messy, without the mamouth clear up. It'll get you out with your mates in no time at all, as opposed to stripping your bike down to spend a few hours on it. The only caveat I would also mention is, if you've covered your rear dérailleur in cleaner, you may want to apply some oil to those cogs, as well as your chain etc. Enjoy. It's a Yes from me :)Date published: 2017-05-30
