ReviewsBoardman CX Comp Bike 2014 42 42Boardman CX Comp Bought this bike recently and had great service from Spencer and Dave at Ringwood Road Halfords. I took it on a few trails including mud, wet leaves, bumps and potholes and I was impressed. Great comfort and it felt like it was on rails even during unplanned excursions into soft verges. It even has provision for mudguards. The extra handlebar mounted brakes (next to the stem) are a bonus. The disc brakes are good in the wet. 05 December 2014Great value and versatile bike. I bought this bike over a year ago and have covered over 3000 miles and have to say it's a robust bit of kit that's a pleasure to ride. I use it primarily on pot hole ravaged London roads and tow paths to which it is perfectly suited. Like others have noted the tektro lyra brakes are not the greatest but are a common component at this price point. In my opinion they are barely adequate and they were swiftly junked in favor of Avid BB7 calipers and rotors which give superior stopping power. The pedals were for swapped for some quality Shimano Saint flats as I dislike pedals with straps. As I'm primarily road focused the Tyrago tyres were removed in favor of a set of Continental 4 Seasons, which Halfords sell at a bargain price (though they seem to be out of stock most of the time). But these are purely personal preferences. On a side note I've fitted up to 38c tyres with no clearance problems. The build quality in general is very good though the bottom bracket gave up after only 5 months of mostly dry use. I also noticed the headset bearings were pretty much grease free, so I recommend getting checking them. All in all I'm very happy with my cx comp and highly recommend it. I bought it during a 10% discount weekend making it even more of a bargain. 21 November 2014loving IT i have now had this bike for 2 weeks now and see no reason why i would dislike it every morning i look at my bike and say ready for another day i commute about 20 miles a day and every mile breeze by and the bike just glides down the road with minimal effort i haven't had a chance to take it off road yet but i know it will be fantastic as i have been some really bad roads and it has no problem conquering them roads and feel safe knowing my brake discs will stop in all weather :) 12 November 2014Master of all terrains I replaced my aging commuter road bike with the Boardman CX. I needed a go anywhere bike that I could throw off kerbs, hit the gravel paths and generally abuse. I have had my Boardman CX since May 2014 and I have loved every mile we've clocked up together. This is not a road bike, don't get confused. I ditched the knobbly tyres for the summer as i needed the extra speed on my commute and the bike responded well. I have now gone back the knobbly tyres and hit the trails. The bike soaks up all the bumps and is comfortable. My only negative comment is that I couldn't cope with the original saddle, which i replaced after 100 miles, but that is an issue with me not the bike. My local Halfords store has been great with there customer support and the minors tweaks I've required. This is a quality bike for the money, but not a road bike. 11 November 2014Excellent bike This is a fantastic bike, great for inner city riding, haven't tried it off road yet, but very pleased with how it handles London's many pot holes. The only negatives are the disc brakes which are making an annoy noise, but are excellent for stopping when a pedestrian stops off the curb. The tires that are on the bike are good for in the winter but slow the bike down by about 1mph, so I would suggest buying smooth tyres for the summer. Overall very pleased with the bike. 02 November 2014When it's good it very good, but..... Got into cycling during Wiggo's TDF, bought a Raleigh then a Scott hybrid, so this was my first drop handle bars experience. I bought it because I ride a lot in the hilly lanes around my house and the roads are poor, so I was worried about skinny 25mm tyres on pot holes. I got the bike early summer and was amazed with the difference in handling and grip. I put 25mm gatorskins on as during the summer as I found myself going on longer rides on better roads and you do feel the difference. When the gears and brakes are aligned it shifts and brakes effortlessly, but they need a lot of "care". I have rarely had the bike where the chain doesn't rub the front derailleur in either top top or bottom bottom gears. I recently returned to the 37mm tyres and boy do you feel locked to the road even on wet country lanes. i love the bike, love the three riding positions, starting to use the "proper" position a lot more. A good introduction to real cycling. 17 October 2014Awesome all-rounder Having not owned a bike for fifteen years, I was after something that would enable me to train on the roads and also go out on bikes with the family. The cx comp not only looks the part, but provides a quality and comfortable ride both on and off-road. I'm fantastically pleased with my purchase and would recommend to anyone looking for a multi purpose bike. 15 October 2014First road bike This bike looks and feels great. Very comfy great tyres for all year round riding. Doing my first sportive on this over the next couple of months. My riding has improved buying this bike recommended. 12 October 2014
