Boardman Road Pro Carbon SLR Bike - 48.5, 50, 52.5, 54cm Frames is rated out of 5 by 17.Rated 5 out of 5 by Ricoman from Boardman sir 54 cm What a bike ,you feel a part of it ,get on it and it does everything you want and more. Only downside it's not on new 2018 listings , so buy while you can in saleDate published: 2018-05-17Rated 2 out of 5 by Kuredu1 from Looks good but that’s it Brought this bike 10 months ago, prize £1800 but with discount cost £1200 plus £70 care plan. First bike Derailer broke within 7 days,so store replace for new bike so was happy. 7 weeks later I had noise from handle bars and bearing. Store confirmed problem and Took bike back then sent it back to be repaired. Never used bike over winter.Just started using bike again and bearing noise still there. Maybe I was unlucky but wouldn’t go near this bike. This will be my winter bike( if it lasts.) Gears good, weight good, handling ok. I do cycle most days so in my opinion this bike is not up for everyday use.Worst bike I’ve ever had.Date published: 2018-05-01Rated 5 out of 5 by Jam52 from Good quality bike for the price. I had been looking for a carbon frame bike for summer riding without breaking the 'bank', kept coming back to this bike, good components, good reviews & a good price. Do get bike size check before ordering, strangely Halfords & Boardmans sizing quite different ! Bike frame very chrome finish, i like the Sram gear shifting (once you get used to it), after Shimano, all gears shift with the smaller trigger (short push for 1 gear up,full push gear down), no need to push brake lever other than to brake, which i find really good, better than my Shimano 105's. Bike felt very solid & composed (helped by the 25mm tyres), biggest difference with old bike is the climbing ability.Date published: 2017-05-27Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Top bike Without Top Price I've rode this bike for 5,150 miles in 11 months time, I did short speed training ride but mostly, focused on long distance rides. so it's time to give a review. The bike is fast, light and responsive as other reviews mentioned. Even at £1800 price without discount the bike is already a cracking deal, you get a decent carbon frame, tier 2 FULL sram force groupset without compromise. The mavic ksyrium is probably one of the best stock wheels you could get at this price point. If lucky you could get 10% or 20% discount from Halfords, combined with British cycling membership, you probably just pay less than £1,300 for this specs!!! Even the great online bike brand Canyon can not beat them!!! So this bike is absolutely awesome and value for money, as long as the bike is set up properly (You could ask other bike shop to assemble the bike). I do suggest to have a look the bike on your own, because the picture on the website is very awful, in reality the colour is shiny silver so don't get cheated (I'll upload pictures later) One thing is quite important is the frame size and you may need to look carefully, The frame suggestion on Halfords is DIFFERENT with the one on the Boardman website, and I think the Boardman website is more accurate. The frame geometry is also a bit aggressive. I am 175cm (5'9'') and the conventional frame size should be 53/54 or medium, but I tested both small and medium, in the end I chose small because it was more comfortable (My later bike fitting also confirmed this, Boardman website also suggests the small size rather than medium on the Halfords website). I suggest to ask for a test ride if you could and have a look at the details on the frame information before you buy. I think there may be two things I would suggest to do after you've rode it for some time. First is a proper bike fitting to improve and correct the riding position. The second is the wheels upgrade. Actually Mavic Ksyrium is quite good and reliable as the stock wheels, but you could upgrade to even lighter alloy wheels with better hubs, or carbon clinchers with more rim depth to release the race potential of this bike (which is what this bike mainly designed for) as well as for cosmetic perfection. Or you could swap to more comfortable bar grip but that possibly not on my list. I just upgraded to the Reynolds Assault SLG carbon 41mm carbon clincher wheels with gp 4000s tyres, bought as second hand from my cycle club mate but looks very new. Now it looks like a top specs bike, but I didn't not spend insane money and break my bank for thatDate published: 2017-03-29Rated 5 out of 5 by Fireshepss from 4 months 2000 miles and a big smile so this is an update to my first review, I'm now 4 months and 2000 miles into the ownership of this fantastic and versatile bike, so let's start with the lows as per the norm the original pf30 bb had very little grease I've cleaned and pumped the sealed bearings full of Teflon grease and they are now running nice and smooth, the mavic ksyrium had an issue with the spokes twisting but halfords upgraded me to mavics ksyrium elites worth about 500 pounds and these are becoming some of favourite wheels of all time! And that's where the lows end! Now I'm starting to get back into shape after a massive crash and now I'm pushing the slr a lot harder all I can say is I'm shocked at how good a bike this price can perform! Not once have I wanted for more from this frame it sprints like a demon with no flex and yet doesn't punish you on the rough roads of west Dorset, its geometry is spot on, low long and sporty but can handle century rides with ease. I truly believe that even though people look down their noses at boardman and halfords this proves them wrong! I've said it before this is one of the market's best kept secrets and one of the reasons I tend to smile so much when riding with others knowing they've spent 3 times the amount of money but still seem to want more.Date published: 2017-03-04Rated 5 out of 5 by rich07 from superb handling What a great bike. Over the last 20 years i have purchased many bikes some very expensive some less so. This bike is brilliant. It is v light and responsive and handles changes of pace extremely well. The spec is also superb and very good value for money. The lads at the southport branch were v helpful and added some decent MTB's and tires-Thanks you. I would really recommend this bike to all.Date published: 2017-02-24Rated 5 out of 5 by sheps41 from Should of brought this before now! So for years now this bike has been getting rave reviews and always makes into bike of year listings, however I'll admit I'm a bike snob! I have owned pinarello's ridley's felt's etc etc all top flight bikes! However after a bike crash and my Insurance not given me the full amount I had to choose Wisley, I ended up with the slr, it's frame is a toray 800 carbon compact frame I'm 6ft2 so ordered the 54cm (remember guys it's a compact the top tube is a long 58cm!) the full sram force and ksyrium wheels are amazing value for money my bike is 7kg spot on! On the road it's a very easy bike to live with its smooth and very fast it's riding position is long and low but not so low as to become uncomfortable. Boardman has made an amazingly versatile bike! This is the type of bike that people underistermate do your self a favour if your after a bike around the £2000 mark swallow your pride and buy this bike! Then go out and shock yourself and friends at how good the slr is!Date published: 2016-12-18Rated 5 out of 5 by Gary56 from Amazing bike Took delivery of this bike in October but had issue getting the gearing right. Approximately 50 miles on the bike and the team at Halfords (Andover) tried adjusting the gears again, for a third time, but we still ran into problems with the gears just not changing smoothly. The bike was changed for another at this point and Wow, what a difference. The bike is ultra light, smooth and blisteringly fast downhill. I have also noticed a big difference carrying speed into hills. Great choice and excellent service from Kerry and John at the store.Date published: 2016-11-16
