Halfords Bike it Motorcycle Smart Charger 2-4 Amp is rated out of 5 by 11.Rated 5 out of 5 by Ashli from Does what it needs to. Doesn't seem to have caused any of my batteries to blow up yet, so that's good.Date published: 2017-02-25Rated 2 out of 5 by deldg from Using with care Mine is about 4 years old, little used, I've measured the battery voltage when plugged in and it rose to 19.5v which is far too high and will damage the cells if left connected.Date published: 2016-04-29Rated 1 out of 5 by TAJAMES from Read reviews before buying I didn't read the reviews before buying, Left charger on for a few months over winter on my GS1150, only to find that the battery was felt when I went to use the bike, after removing the battery found that 4 of the cells had boiled dry. Luckily I still had the receipt, and Halfords refunded me. Paid a extra £10 and bought the Oxford 900. But now need to shell out £90 for a new battery!! The charger may be great if you are only charging, but do not leave attached over a period of time.Date published: 2016-04-05Rated 5 out of 5 by Louise27 from Great product Great product, charged my 500 cc bike overnight from being entirely dead. Only niggle would be better instructions.Date published: 2015-07-05Rated 1 out of 5 by TT99 from Cannot recommend it Sadly I read these reviews too late for me and my battery. I have to assume that the charger killed mine off too, as the battery was very young and had not been a problem, just needed a maintenance charge between uses. The charger has unfortunately failed miserably, and even worse I cannot find my receipt to return it, despite it being in mint condition. Suggest you try an alternative brand.Date published: 2015-06-10Rated 1 out of 5 by Bluestone42 from Beware of this charger Just like several previous reviews this unit has destroyed two batteries on me. I had my TDM on low charge and when I went to try it (charger showing fully charged) the bike wouldn't start-the battery is dead. Only last weekend I left my ZX9 (new Bosch battery) on charge. Same story with that. Now connected the charger to the (well dead) ZX battery and the charger shows fully charged yet the battery is as dead as a Dodo. Avoid this junk and buy a real Optimate. €62 for the charger and now I also need two batteries. I WONT be buying them in Halfrauds.Date published: 2015-04-21Rated 1 out of 5 by bedfordhatter2 from Smart charger it is not! Bought on the assumption this was a smart charger that trickle charges the battery. Beware it actually cooks the battery. Lost 3 batteries and broke down while I was out and about. Take to the garage thinking it was an electrical problem and there was nothing wrong with the bike, and only when changing to another charger was the problem solved. Be nice to think Halfords may read this and offer some compensation, this has been a very costly purchase for me and a big lesson, in reading reviews going forward!!Date published: 2014-12-22Rated 1 out of 5 by BournemouthBiker from Not so Smart that it can't kill your battery I interpreted a 'Smart' charger to mean that it delivers the correct amount of charge and then stops.... apparently not. I have been chasing electrical problems on my bike and 4 batteries later, I discover that the charger itself is killing my batteries. 2 - 4 amps appears to be just too powerful for a motorcycle battery, one of mine literally boiled dry. A good smart charger checks the battery, reconditions it (de-sulphate cycle), and delivers the appropriate charge and can be left on keeping the battery at peak performance. Despite being a similar price to some of the branded proper smart products and looking similar, this is not a comparable product. Shame I didn't realise this before wasting my money on it and 4 batteries.Date published: 2014-12-11
