UK vehicles are designed for driving on the left-hand side of the road. This means when you use your vehicle in countries where you drive on the right (most of Europe), you will dazzle oncoming drivers at night. If you're driving to the Continent then you must adjust the headlight beam pattern to suit driving on the right so that the dipped beam doesn't dazzle oncoming drivers. You will need to fit a set of Halfords headlamp beam converters. These self-adhesive masks blank out the part of the beam which could dazzle oncoming drivers. If your car has twin headlights, you need only mask the outer pair. Some more modern cars have special clear lenses or projector lights, which will need the masks to be fitted in a particular way - refer to the headlamp converter instructions.Never go abroad to Europe without adjusting the headlamp pattern of your vehicle as it is a compulsory requirement in most countries. Remember to remove the headlamp converters as soon as you return to the UK.
Halfords Headlamp Converters is rated out of 5 by 51.Rated 4 out of 5 by Fordrivingontheright from A simple necessity for driving abroad Once you realise that the curvature of the lens covers on the headlamps makes precision impossible for placing the headlamp converters it becomes easy to use them. They do seem to stick on in all weathers, which is the second requirement. Since we put them on no-one has flashed at us while driving in the dark, so it seems that they work.Date published: 2017-07-13Rated 1 out of 5 by Francspa from Difficult to fit and especially remove Bought these for my girlfriends Mercedes SLC ( which is now 9 months old), but the instructions don't cover that model, despite specifying car at purchase. Had to use the older SLK model as a guide but wasn't 100% sure it was correct re the positioning, the diagrams being very vaugue. But the real issue is the removal. You cannot get them off in one piece, the backing film staying attached to the lens, which I guess is to stop you reusing them. However, the mess it leaves is dreadful, and took many applications of bug/tar remover to even partially clean the headlights. Seriously unimpressed and won't but these againDate published: 2017-06-09Rated 5 out of 5 by Driver464 from Seem great! I bought them for someone else, and they seemed to think they were just the job and contained the information they needed.Date published: 2016-10-30Rated 2 out of 5 by GePee from Failed to adhere to lamps I took a lot of time following the instructions and I have been travelling for many years and using similar beam deflectors but this is first time they have failed to stick to my headlights. After about 350 miles I had lost the driving side deflector and other side was half off. I pressed the latter one firmly in, but after a fort her 200 miles it was loose again. It was totally gone after 700 miles. Useless and a wasted £8. My advice, go somewhere else.Date published: 2016-10-10Rated 1 out of 5 by TravelL from Unclear Unclear instructions on packet even though stated simpleDate published: 2016-08-25Rated 2 out of 5 by Salading from Shocking price These work well enough, but £8 for two bits of sticky back plastic that are not reusable? Seriously?Date published: 2016-08-24Rated 3 out of 5 by JET1447 from A product bought but hardly ever used At £7.99 this is an expensive piece of kit which may never get used. It is useful at night or in poor visibility. Most GB drivers avoid night trips in Europe. It cannot be reused so a new kit has to be used each time. We never used it. The maker has useful series of videos on line.Date published: 2016-07-21Rated 2 out of 5 by RGML from Good value, but not suitable for all cars The quality of this product is good and the price is very reasonable, but unfortunately the converters are not suitable for all cars. I recently bought these for use with a Golf Mk VI Estate (2010 registration) and they seemed to make very little, if any, difference to the dipped-headlight pattern - the drivers of most approaching vehicles flashed their headlights, despite my having the instructions to the letter when installing them. I suspect this is because the headlights on this Golf have a markedly 'swept-back' design: they are probably more suitable for cars with headlights set square. So probably best to bear this in mind before purchase. Having said that, the converters are easy to install and remove (use a drop of neat windscreen wash to remove any residual adhesive); and the instructions are clear and comprehensive.Date published: 2016-07-16
