Universal Multigrip Snow Socks XXL is rated out of 5 by 8.Rated 5 out of 5 by bazpoint from Surprisingly effective snow solution Needed a snow driving solution for our Mercedes Vito on a ski trip to the Pyrenees. Looked at chains but then came across socks - seemed like a simpler solution so took a chance on them. As it turns out they were needed twice. Probably a combined distance of no more than 20 or 30km, but they were absolutely vital kilometres and would've been simply impassable without. They were an absolute doddle to fit - I can imagine they would be trickier on a vehicle with tighter wheel arches but with the roomy arches of the Vito it couldn't have been much easier - with two of us doing it it was no more than 2 minutes out of the car, which is ideal in those conditions. Even quicker to take off, literally seconds, though gloves essential to save cold dirty fingers. Traction improvement was instant and massive - waited late to put them on the first time until I was getting repeated flashes from the traction warning light and feeling the back end snaking again and again. Once they were on it was suddenly as if there was no snow - didn't see the warning light again the rest of the journey. Kept the driving slow and steady and made sure to take them off as soon as conditions allowed it, and as a result they still seem to be in perfect condition. I can see how they could die quickly if they were driven too hard off-snow, or hit a few nasty potholes, but the same is true of chains - just gotta be as careful as you can. Only downside it that it's a bit of a job to fit them back into their original bags. Highly recommended, will never consider chains again if I have to buy for another vehicle, socks are the future!Date published: 2017-02-17Rated 5 out of 5 by CaptainTom3 from Great alternative to chains Having experienced both chains and snow socks, I can thoroughly recommend, for the lighter user, the snow socks to get them out of trouble when snowfalls. Bear in mind that it involves kneeling on snowy ground, so a kneeling pad is essential. that said they are easy to fit and will do less damage to the car if they detach, unlike chains that will rip through wheel arches. Importantly they will get you practically anywhere a chain will. You can just go for the drive wheels but that generally allows the back end to break away if you are going a little too fast.Date published: 2015-07-13Rated 4 out of 5 by DataGata from Good product but was not supplied with instructions We had to use these tyre socks on our recent ski holiday to the French Alps. We have a BMW 5 Series estate, which is usually not good in the snow, but with these tyre socks we had no problems on the snow covered roads coming off the mountain. My only complaint was that the product was not supplied with any installation instructions. Fortunately we had watched the video link for this product, which was good and the socks are easy to install.Date published: 2015-02-24Rated 4 out of 5 by Sledger33 from Effective Snow Grip Have only used once up and down a snow covered minor road about 1.5 miles each way with some steep sections. The snow socks worked very well no wheel spinning at all even on the steeper bits. They seem well made and robust.Date published: 2015-02-02Rated 3 out of 5 by sgb555 from Functional product I have had one opportunity to use the product fro a short time since purchasing and it functioned as expected.Date published: 2015-02-01Rated 4 out of 5 by Andy0506 from Good while it lasted I found the snow socks excellent for their traction. However, the instructions streched the truth by saying they could be fitted in two minutes, it turned out to be more like ten. Unfortunately, due to hitting a pothole one of the snow socks developed a nasty tear and I had to dispose of both after lessthan four days use. Would still buy another pair though.Date published: 2013-02-10Rated 5 out of 5 by beccaVKR from This product is so easy to use I used snow sock over last few weeks and they were fantastic. Easy to put on and very effective in the snow.Date published: 2013-02-01Rated 5 out of 5 by andypops from Essential for extreme conditions Excellent product, gave good confidence driving in several inches of snow and icy conditions. Would never have made the journey without them. They are tricky to fit especially if you have little clearance in the wheel arch, don't expect to be able to feel your fingers after fitting them in the snow.Date published: 2013-01-31
