Nextbase Car 9 - 9" Portable In-Car DVD Player is rated out of 5 by 39.Rated 5 out of 5 by Motherlove from Great value Bought this so that my granddaughter was able to be entertained while in the car. It's so easy to install and the 9 inch screen is a big feature and very clear when watching the DVDs. Bought this on the recommendation of my daughter as she had already bought this model. Delighted with this.Date published: 2018-04-14Rated 4 out of 5 by Breda17 from Netbase dvd player Excellent product except it is tricky to control the player with the remote unless it's directly facing the player. It makes it extremely difficult to control the player from the front seat when the player is in the back.Date published: 2017-11-20Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy28 from Car DVD player This is a xmas present so it has not been tested yet, but I am trusting Halfords as a car shop, that it will be perfect! These have great reviews, they come with free head phones, but I also bought the case for it as it looks funky. Great colours.Date published: 2017-11-05Rated 4 out of 5 by DanDad72 from Here's the Techy Stuff! I couldn't find the answers in the reviews so I bought one and went for it. I won't cover the points everyone else has covered about picture/sound quality etc... save to say I'm pleased with it! It has no battery, so it will cut out the second it loses power. I have a 2014 VW Touran with stop-start which doesn't interrupt the power luckily, but I know that on some models it does. The unit cannot tolerate even a momentary interruption in power. If power is interrupted, it goes off but when it comes back on it plays from where it was, so it's a short interruption. Not long but maybe enough to get a gripe from a tired toddler. I timed it at 21 seconds from power being restored to the film resuming. It appears to be region-free. I tried a region 1 (USA) and a region 3 (Asia) DVD and they played just fine. NTSC and PAL discs seem fine too. Also copied discs (DVD-R) seem to play fine too. It is fussy about formats of video on the SD card or USB drive. Very fussy! However, the instructions tell you to download DivX converter and select "Home Theatre" mode for converting. The manual says you have to pay but that's not true. DivX do a free version which works perfectly fine. Films downloaded on Bittorrent and the like can literally be encoded with any settings or codec under the sun. Using DivX Converter I was able to convert them easily to make them play perfectly on the device. As a guide, Disney's Frozen took 30 minutes to convert on a 2.4ghz Intel i5 Sony Vaio. I'm not advocating piracy here, but I'm sure you can appreciate the advantage of a stack of films on an SD card or USB key rather than original DVD discs and cases in your car! The remote control works well except only from in front of the device. It's a bit frustrating trying to turn the volume up or down from the front seat of the car, especially if your kids are too young to operate it themselves. It has a little built-in kick-stand for use outside of the car. It doesn't come with a mains power supply but I bought one off eBay for under £8 and it worked perfectly. When viewing films (DVDs or DIVX from SD card/USB) you can zoom in or out and when zoomed in you can pan the picture around. Very useful for films encoded by dingbats who have no concept of aspect ratios etc... Operationally it supports composite video in and out in both PAL and NTSC which is switchable from the menu. It has parental controls and password facilities. One annoying flaw is the resume-memory for power failure only works for DVDs. If you're playing a DiVX film and the power is interrupted, it comes back on and tries to resume the DVD. If there is no DVD it just sits there saying "NO DISC". The same is true of the AV-IN mode. If using AV-IN and the power is interrupted, it comes back on in DVD mode. For those international among us, the on-screen menu system supports English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian. All in all, well pleased with this device. I think it could benefit from HDMI input but that'd put it in a higher price bracket I think. For keeping the kids happy on log journeys it's great. Thanks for reading!Date published: 2017-09-06Rated 2 out of 5 by Julot from Be aware We bought this DVD player to replace one of our nextbase inn car DVD player (screen was broken). The picture quality is better than the previous version BUT this DVD player doesn't have any build in battery, so would only work if plug in the car... we used to take this to restaurant when on holiday etc... now impossible. When the car engine is stopped (our car, like most car is fitted with the "stop and go" to help with pollution) then the DVD player doesn't have any power supply and therefore stop ...we had to keep the engine on while in a queue for my daughter to watch the movie. After talking to nextbase help desk, We decided to invest on a separate battery pack (sold out at Halford!) at £35 to discover that we cannot plug it into this DVD player and would need to buy something else to "convert/make it fit). Also this DVD player doesn't come with a main supply so unless you spend another £15 you won't be able to use it at home, but only in the car. Conclusion: very very expensive in car DVD player. Could have found much better value for money with other brands.Date published: 2017-07-21Rated 3 out of 5 by Claire195 from My toddler loves it.. Very handy for long journeys My 18 months old isn't great in the car so bought this for a recent holiday which involves a lot of driving... He loved it! So pleased we did. The quality is great and easy to use and really like that you put the dvd in the back so can load whilst attached to the headrest easily. Draw backs are its not a quick clip to release from the headrest so bit of a faff.. But If your mainly using for long journeys rather than popping in and put the car, then it's not too much of a drama.. Also the remote is hard to use unless directly at the screen and could make the buttons a bit bigger / clearer to see as you have to bend and stretch etc once it's set in car to reach... But all in all pleased with it.Date published: 2017-05-27Rated 3 out of 5 by Tavistock09 from A good looking piece of kit I purchased this to replace a slave screen which linked to a master unit so that my twins could watch their own choice of DVD. Compared with the original master this unit attaches to the head rest with fiddly thumb nuts as opposed to keys. This means it's difficult to fix so it doesn't slide down the rods. The screen release is also fiddly and tricky to operate. In addition the power plugs into the unit instead of the retaining bar - this I think is a pity as when removing you have to keep plugging/unplugging. Overall the unit is far less attractive and functional. However on the plus side the controls are much easier to access and I'm hoping the wireless headphones are going to seal it! Picture quality is fair.Date published: 2017-05-01Rated 5 out of 5 by Jimmyx10 from Excellent purchase Excellent product. Keeps our 2 year old entertained. Robust piece of kit and can't fault it.Date published: 2017-04-20
