Easy Camping Meals
Cooking in the great outdoors is one of the joys of camping. Take a look at our ideas for some easy camping meals that will feed even the hungriest of campers.
You don't have to be a Michelin-starred chef to cook a variety of tasty food on your camping holiday. Outdoor cooking is all about simplicity and fresh flavours, and with the wide range of camping cooking equipment available these days, you're not limited to beans on toast.
The key to cooking successful camping meals is preparation. Before leaving home, plan which meals you'd like to cook and prep the ingredients first - for instance, you could chop your veg and measure out any spices, then pack them in zip-lock bags ready to throw into the pan.
Ideas for Easy Camping Meals
For some campsite cuisine inspiration, check out our ideas for simple camping meals below.
1. Easy One-Pot Breakfast
Start the day off the right way! An English breakfast can be prepared in one large frying pan - simply fry traditional breakfast ingredients such as sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes in a pan over a camping stove. Once these are nearly cooked, clear a space in the middle of the pan. Open a tin of beans and carefully place the can into the space - this means you can heat the beans through without having to tip them out into a saucepan, saving on the washing up.
2. Foil-Wrapped Jacket Potatoes
This campsite favourite works best with a campfire or a barbeque. Piece some potatoes several times with a fork, then wrap them up individually in foil along with some butter, salt, pepper, and any herbs you may have to hand. Place them into the coals or embers of the fire and heat for 30-60 minutes until cooked. Be careful when taking out of the coals and unwrapping as they will be hot - but also very tasty!
3. Campsite Chilli Con Carne
This has to be one of the most satisfying camping meals after a long day's activity, and is guaranteed to warm you up on chilly nights. Fry some mince and onions in a saucepan, then stir in a tin of tomatoes and a packet of chilli mix. Simmer for about 20 minutes, then add a can of kidney beans. Warm through, then serve with crusty bread and butter - heaven.
4. Bubble and Squeak
Just like at home, rustling up some bubble and squeak is a fantastic way to use up leftovers and cut down on waste. Simply throw any leftover meat - bacon works particularly well - into a pan and fry along with potatoes, plus any other vegetables you have left. Season with salt and pepper and serve.
