Fitting

Halfords Cycle Carriers

If you want a roof mounted carrier you will also need to buy some roof bars. For a special combined price, our trained professionals can fit both together for you at your local Halfords store

You may need to pre-book – contact your local store. Fitting is subject to vehicle inspection.

Types Of Cycle Carrier

We sell Halfords own cycle carriers in our three ranges called: Halfords Value, Halfords and Halfords Advanced. We also sell Thule cycle carriers, with a worldwide reputation for being the best available.

There are four types of cycle carrier:

Roof Mounted

Roof Mounted Cycle Carrier
  • Carries up to 4 bikes.
  • Leaves the rear free to tow caravans and trailers.
  • Allows access to the boot.
  • Secure - many carriers can lock to bike and roof bar.
  • Please note: You will also need roof bars for this system if you haven't already got them.

Rear Mounted

Rear Mounted Cycle Carrier
  • Carries up to 3 bikes.
  • Mounts directly to the back of your car.
  • Leaves the roof free to carry other loads such as a roof box.
  • Please Note: If the bikes cover the rear lights or number plate, you will need a lighting board.

Tow Bar Mounted

Tow Bar Mounted Cycle Carrier
  • Carries up to 4 bikes at low level loading.
  • Leaves the roof free to carry other loads such as a roof box.

4X4 Carrier Mounted

4X4 Cycle Carrier Mounted
  • Carries up to 2 bikes.
  • Secure way for 4x4 drivers to carry bikes.
  • Fits on rear mounted spare wheel.
  • Leaves the roof free to carry other loads such as a roof box.
  • Please Note: If the bikes cover the rear lights or number plate, you will need a lighting board.

  • Halfords sells snow chains in a range of sizes so you should be able to find one to meet your needs. When looking to buy snow chains you can:

    • Drop into your nearest store for advice on choosing and fitting snow chains
    • Reserve online and collect your snow chains instore

    Fitting snow chains can help to boost grip and control when driving in snow or icy weather.

  • In order to find the right size roof box, you need to consider the size of the load you want your roof box to carry.

    Roof boxes come in 1/2 width - equivalent to a mid-size car boot; 3/4 width - equivalent to a large car boot; and full width - equivalent to a large estate car boot.

    1/2 width roof boxes and 3/4 width roof boxes allow additional room on the top of your car for bikes or a bike, whereas full width roof boxes take up the full width of your car roof, making them ideal for large loads when going on holiday or moving house.
