My car won't start and I think my battery has gone flat: what can I do?
There are several causes and solutions:
- The battery may have gone flat if your car's alternator is not working. An alternator uses power from the engine to keep your battery charged. The solution is to get both your battery and alternator checked to find out which one is faulty: We can check your battery for free in-store.
- The battery may have been drained by being used without the engine running. If it isn't completely dead you could buy a Halfords battery charger to charge the battery from the mains. If you need to get the car going immediately then a Halfords power pack can be used to jump-start the engine or use jump leads to connect to another car's battery. Power packs are very handy to keep in the boot in case of emergencies.
- The battery may be under excessive strain if your car is used for frequent short journeys and the battery doesn't have time to recharge between starts. A solution is to buy a more powerful battery such as a Halfords Calcium or a Bosch Silver.
- The battery may be under excessive strain due to using lots of extra electrical equipment that wasn't fitted as standard on your vehicle such as DVD players, phone chargers, mini-fridges, Sat navs or audio amplifiers and speakers. A solution is to buy a more powerful battery such as a Halfords Calcium or a Bosch Silver.

Most car oils are not suitable for use in motorcycle engines.
