    • Carrera Crosscity Electric Bike is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from First Electric Bike Where do I start? 1) The bike with battery weighs in excess of 22kg. Unless you are strong it will be difficult carrying it folded up stairs. 2) The bike does not fold up into a compact stable item. This is not a Brompton. 3) No instruction booklet or even leaflet about the bike was given. This I find astonishing. If you buy a kettle from Tesco you get an instruction booklet. An electric bike is more complicated than a kettle yet no instruction booklet. It made me think that this was some type of knock off product. 4) On the wheels squealing as I was given the bike I was told that the bike needs ‘to break in’ and.then the squealing will stop. What turned out to be fact is the brakes were set up directly against the wheel rim without a 2mm gap on either side of the brake pads. This eventually resulted in the wheels not being able to rotate freely at all. I could not understand why it was so difficult to peddle.I then had to read up about how V brakes work and their setting. I was able to re-set the brakes allowing the wheels to freely move when the brake levers are not engaged. This too I found astonishing. 5) The kick stand is of poor quality and wobbles as the bike goes along. 6) The Bell is ridiculous and the pinging mechanism rotates all over the place. It was replaced by a proper bell from Decathlon. 7) The front reflector was on the handlebars taking up space leaving no room for a front light. 8) The handlebars had no rubber guides to stop it moving out of position when loosened. 9) The pedal assist is useful for getting away from cars at traffic lights and for getting up hills.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Electric bike Brought this bike for going to work. Bit wobbly at first as used to a mountain bike. I'm 6'1 and it's ok for me. Firm ride so I've fitted a gel seat this helps stable the ride as well. The tyres are puncher resistant. Fitted longer handle bars to allow more gadgets to be fitted. It gets you up steep hills but you do have to put some effort in as it will not do 15 mph on its own. The 8 gears work really well and on the flat roads I cycle without assistance at over 16 mph. Bad points are I had trouble getting the rear wheel off, it's a nightmare and is probably impossible to repair a puncher out on a ride. Unless you can repiar it without taking it off. Put slime in for now. It is heavy but managing to put it in my cellar.I do like this bike.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bike with some poor quality details Ridden this to work a few times. A ten mile round trip with some climbing. I just use the assist for the climbs. The bike has been great with no need to charge yet. However some annoying quality issues. The bell broke the first time I used it and one of the wheel reflectors fell off. Initially the back brake was binding but both brakes needed quite a bit of adjustment after the first ride. Overall it is doing what I wanted so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Crosscity Let's start with what I dislike. Removing the back wheel is a nightmare . I wax worried about getting a puncher so I brought better tyers you need to force the frame apart to get the wheel off. So buy slime or repair the puncher without taking the wheel of. The ride is hard, buy a good gel seat works a treat. I put slightly longer bars on mine due to little space for lights ect. But going past all that I love it and im glad I got it from a UK based company not from eBay. The 8 gears work well as I'm used to 24 on my mountain bike , but you won't need them on this bike. I use it for work so the other bike is for fun. The tyers fitted are puncher resistant I didn't notice that at first so stick with them. I've not had it long so on its first service I'm going to mention the rear wheel removel. I own a cheap ecosmo tandem and the quality is far better on the carrera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The age of Electric Bikes is here It looks good, ride well, feel safe and overall a fantastic local service from Halfords Cycle Republic branch in Twickenham. This must have been my nine bikes from Halfords and every time, the perfect service was just so so good. My other Carrera bike is still in perfect condition; but this one is for commuting to work via trains to London. The electric motor kicked in quite smooth as I peddled, didn't need to strain my leg muscles at all. Up hill was done in one breath not fifty like the normal manual bikes. I feel so good, I want to get 3 more, tomorrow, and get rid of my car.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike for commuting, shopping etc I have had this bike for 5 months now. I left it a while before reviewing so I could give a fair one. I live in a 2nd floor apartment and needed a bike I could carry upstairs and that would fold up and fit into the bottom of a wardrobe. This bike definately meets that criteria. I live on a steep hill so knew if I got a regular bike I wouldn't use it as much. The best way to describe the bike when using the power assist is that it makes everywhere feel flat. Yes you still have to pedal but you choose how much effort to put in. You can put in lots of effort so the power auto adjusts and doesnt take as much from the battery or you can pedal very very lightly putting no effort in and let the motor do the work. It also has a usb port so you can charge your phone in an emergency. I go into town on this bike and manage to get quite a bit of shopping using a bag on the back rack and also a backpack. Even with a heavy backpack on it's no effort as the bike does the work. I have used it to commute to work which is great and the ride home which is all uphill is not really a problem. I have also used this when taking my car for a service etc. I folded it up and put it in the back of the car and dropped my car off then went and did some shopping and went home. It just helps make things more convenient. When using on the roads, if I'm at a junction or at traffic lights I flick the power button to maximum. That way when I set off the power kicks in after a second or so of peddeling so you can get out of the junction quicker etc. I find this safer in traffic. I did initially find it quite heavy to lift so to over come that I now take the battery out when carrying it up and downstairs. I also unfold it as I find it easier to carry that way and surprisingly this makes a big difference and it's not an issue anymore. I'm very slim and don't have much padding on my bum so I did buy a more padded saddle. If you wanted you could try the one it comes with and just get a padded cover if needed as the bike doesn't have a suspension and some roads are pretty rough to say the least. I'm 5ft 11 tall and the bike is great for someone my height. As with all new bikes from Halfords, if you spend over £300 You can get it on 12 months interest free so I took advantage of this. I also bought my saddle, bike pump etc and they added it all together for the interest free 12 month deal which is worth bearing in mind if you're new to cycling and need a helmet etc and other extras. All in all a great bike for my needs and I'm glad I got this one rather than the cheaper electric bike Halfords sells with a smaller capacity battery. I would recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Pros and Cons of the purchase of a Carrera Crosscity bike from Halfords The bike is excellent for what it is designed for. The saddle is most comfortable making any ride a pleasure. The electric drive is good and gives plenty of power when climbing hills. The range is sufficient for my needs. Overall a good product with little to mark down.
