    • Saris Gran Fondo 2 Bike Cycle Carrier

The Saris Gran Fondo 2 Bike Cycle Carrier cradles up to two of your bike vertically between the tail lights and license plate. It's compliant with all EU regulations so you shouldn't be involved in any high speed police chases unless you're breaking the law in other ways. Oh, also its aerodynamic design creates a paceline effect, resulting in greater fuel efficiency. Cracking stuff!

    • Saris Gran Fondo 2 Bike Cycle Carrier is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong and Stable, (the carrier, that is) The carrier is relatively easy to assemble, (took about thirty minutes). Fitting the frame to my car (Toyota Avensis tourer / estate) was very easy, and once the straps tightened very secure. I have just used this for 3000 miles with two mountain bikes and it was very stable, even at 70 mph. You do have to be capable of lifting the cycle into a relatively high position , which I don't think everyone could do unassisted. If you have very wide mountain bike wheel they might jam in the upper wheel holder, (my standard tyres were fine). When bikes fitted to this car no rear lights or number plate was obscured.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Doesn't need a light board Not as cheap as a Halfords simple rear mounted cycle carrier but costs in overall as when mounted the bikes don't hide the number plate or rear lights so you don't need to spend extra money on a light board and if you don't have one, having a socket fitted to the car to power the light board. Also you still have a clear view out the back window. Because of the position of the top feet and straps you can also use it on a car with a spoiler at the top of the widow. The rear window on my people carrier has glass to the edge of the boot but the side straps lined up with the metal boot edge under the glass so I could use the standard straps and didn't have to buy hatch huggers (replacement straps with foam tubes on the end of the straps that you trap in the boot). Mounting the carrier on the car is easy. I'm very happy with it. I found a good video review on YouTube that showed a car being driven over bumps and humps with the carrier fitted and bikes loaded so you could see how much movement there was. I have added a picture so you can see what it looks like mounted on a vehicle. Note when I took the picture I hadn't yet attached the side and bottom straps to the boot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good rack that perhaps has room for improvement First of all, despite the issues I have with this rack, it is a good rack that requires a degree of faith when fitted but after 4 hrs with a bike fitted I have not had a problem. My first issue was when building it. At first the instructions seem ok but they are not precise enough and, as I found out, it is very easy to fit a part the wrong way round. Secondly one of the bolt holes was not pre drilled so had to do that myself. Fitting the rack to the car was simple enough and only takes five minutes to do. The front wheel element has two settings, standard & 29". My mountain bike has 27.5" wheels and did not fit the standard setting so I have to use the 29" option. For me this was not an issue but I recently came across a Facebook post where some with the same size wheel and tyre could not get his bike to fit unless he deflated his tyre. My final issue is its size, it is big and doesn't collapse at all for storage, surely they could design some way of making it easier to store? Despite my gripes I do like the rack, especially the upright design meaning the bike doesn't poke out of the side of the car ( especially in lanes on the way to my favourite trails!) and you don't need a light board. It is definitely worth looking up the road test video to see how much movement there is and what it can cope with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saris Gran fondo Once built fits easily to vehicle bikes easy to load Bikes held securely didn't need to re tension straps during journey or after bikes don't touch vehicle when loaded researched various options very pleased with product

Rated 4 out of 5 by from New to cycling Being new to cycling I researched lots of products, I eventually went for the saris gran fondo, the main reason was that with the two bikes on they do not obscure your number plate or rear lamps, the other the bikes are easy to load, my one and only issue is ground clearance that may be due to my car (focus st 2015) this may not be a issue on other makes and models.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed This is an excellent product. It holds bicycles very securely and is easy to take on and off the car. This is particularly helpful as you can remove and fold the carrier quickly and put it in the car while away cycling. Rear lights, number plate and rear wiper are not obstructed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and easy to use I have been looking for a bike rack for ages so found this one and fits perfectly on my VW Tiguan 2013. I was paranoid with my bike on the rack while driving thinking is it going to fall off but got used to it eventually! I have used the rack a few times now thankfully I don't have to take off the front wheel to put the bike in the car. The only bad thing is putting it together when you get it out of the box but fairly straightforward on how to put it together and no lock but have used my bike lock.
