Good to keep for emergencies End clips worked really well and were very secure. At no time did they seem like they would fail. The elasticated rope keeps it off the ground. I thought it may help take some of the 'jerkiness' out of towing, but it didn't, so you still need to drive the rear vehicle and try to keep the rope taught. 18 September 2011
Got us out of a hole I wanted a tow rope I could rely on as I had never towed before and my son had never been towed before and we were having to tow in a city where we would be stopping and starting frequently so I was worried that if we jerked too often the rope may snap. Having looked at several other "heavy duty" tow ropes this one seemed a lot more substantial. Towing operation was successful even up a fairly steep hill and I fully trusted the product. I don't know if one of the cheaper products would have done the job but I feel it was worth paying extra for piece of mind. 02 December 2010

Great Product - great quality Does well what it says it will do & small enough to store in-car. The Tow sign and "flag" are slightly pointless but the tow rope itself is more than up for the job. A very welcome accesory in the recent snow and more than ample for towing other people in my 3 Ton truck 27 January 2010

Answer: 
The use of the Halfords Heavy Duty Elastic Tow Rope is not illegal but it is for temporary use only. Towing another vehilce is potentially dangerous.
You must not exceed the towing limit you driving licence permits. If you passed your test after 1st Jan 1997 you are restricted on the weight of trailer/vehicle you can tow.
