The Halfords Battery Top-Up Water is a 5 litre bottle of de-ionised water, suitable for use in lead-acid batteries. It can also be used in engine cooling systems to reduce scaling and corrosion as well as irons, lava lamps and air-conditioning units.

Water The goods were on the shelf for collection The product was suitably wet. There was no seal on the bottle so not possible to check for tampering. It did turn out to be 99.999% H2O with minimum Deuterium Oxide contaminants or ionic matter. The pH was 7. The product remained wet, though if exposed to the air it has a tendency to dry out. This is definitely a performance issue. 04 June 2011

Good purchase There is not a great deal to say about this item as after all it was only water we are talking about, however I must admit after a long research I found it was by far the cheapest anywhere on the web so Halfords in this case deserves 5 star. Well done Halfords 07 April 2011

F/back on de-ionised top-up water Purchased this de-ionised water to add to anti-freeze/ inhibitor for my car and as such did perform the job. However, both 5 litre containers were not sealed (either with a tamper seal or a peel off cover across the container opening (I did ask the sales assistant, he checked other containers and confirmed that they were the same) and the labe on the container does not state the purity levels of the water. Bearing in mind that the purity levels are the reason for mixing with the anti-freeze it should be expected that the containers are sold in a sealed state and the purity levels stated on the container. Otherwise the buyer could have purchased expensive tap water!! 22 June 2010

Can I use the Battery Top Up Water to make soap? Tap water contains too many impurities. Soap is left to "cure" for 6 weeks, allowing the bar to become hard. Thanks in advance.

The battery top up water is manufactured to a maximum level of 20 microSiemens conductivity but is typically 6-10 microSiemens. This would be approximately 70ppm TDS max. Suitable for battery top up . The manufacturer cannot advise on suitability for soap making.
