Halfords False Cross Bar Product Description

The Halfords False Cross Bar is designed to allow virtually any bike to be carried level on a rear cycle carrier. It makes the loading of the bikes considerably easier and it actually makes the bikes look much tidier when on the car.

Does the job well enough. The bar works fine, it would be nice if it was a little more adjustable, given that on my bike, it didn't fit nicely around my headset, and ended up holding the bike by the stem. It's more of a peeve than a genuine issue. On the plus side, this had the benefit of not allowing my handlebars to turn when on the bike rack. I've racked up close to 150 miles with my bike on the rack, and I've had no cause for concern regarding the crossbar, it has always kept it's position on the bike. I'm not sure how long it will last, given that it is two overlapping halves held together by an elastic strap, which isn't an issue when it is holding a bike, as the saddlepost, and the stem/headset stop the two halves extending, but I think the elastic may snap in a few years time. All in all, it's excellent value, and I haven't had any problems so far. 19 March 2012

Bought this for my daughters bike I recently purchased a Halfords False Cross Bar as my daughter's bicycle has has very low cross bars and would not otherwise sit on a bike rack on the back of the car. The false cross bar connects to the seat stem and the upright of the handle-bars. With the false cross bar, her bike sits nice and level and does not block the rear lights or number plate. So it does it's job! It appears to be well made and securely locks, but there is no secondary locking system, so I was slightly concerned about the false cross bar opening and her bike falling off damaging the car, but that didnt happen. Will I buy another? Probably, we have other mountain bikes in the family and will need at least one more of these! 22 January 2012
Struggled to fit The bar is well made and of good quality but I was never 100% comfortable while using it as there is no way to tighten onto the cycle anchor points so it appears to have too much free-play, although this did not cause any problems in practice. This is the only product of this type I have purchased so may just be a 'feature' of all false cross bars though! 05 June 2011
Simple and easy to use Product is of good quality, very sturdy, easy to use and does exactly what it is built for. I bought it for a 500 mile round trip with use on Saris Bones 2 Bike rack and I had no difficulties with it at all. You may need to adjust the seat height in order to fully tighten the crossbar aginst the frame of the bike but all in all, its is fairly priced for doing a simple job. I would recommend pruchasing this product. 05 May 2011
Useful and seems to do the job I was a bit dubious about the cross-bar as I was worried about the weight of the bike relying on the saddle (as the cross bar attaches to the saddle pole) but managed 2 x 3hr trips on the bike rack with no problems. Quick and easy to fit 04 May 2011

The Halford False Cross Bar has been tested with Halfords Cycle Carriers and Cycles and is adjustable from 38cm - 60cm so may be suitable for use on your Thule Cycle Carrier. We recommend you visit your local Halfords store where a trained colleague will be able to assist you further

Bought the false cross bar to make chidlrens bikes secure and bar is too big!

On packaging states it fits all bikes. Can it be adjusrted go smaller.

Yes, the bar fits between the saddlepost, and the stem of one bike, allowing you to hang the bike from your rack, using the bar.

currently i have to sit the carrera vulcan on the space between frame and forks, the framce is also very think at this point and the velcro straps do not go all the way around the frame.

The Halfords False Cross Bar will be suitable for this but the Halfords Rear High Mount 3 Cycle Carrier should fit your Carrera Vulcan without. If you visit your local Halfords store, a trained colleague will be able to assist with fitting if required.

It extends to match the frame you attach it to. I haven't come across any adult frame it doesn't fit.

The Halfords False Cross Bar at it's small end (attaches to saddle) is 25mm x 45mm and the largest sizes (attaches to handle bars) is 50mm x 50mm.
