Additional Information

The Halfords Number Plate Tape has been tested and found to be simple to use. The contact surface must be very thoroughly cleaned (we recommend use of methylated spirit or similar) then a very strong and durable bond can be made. Failure to ensure the surfaces are clean and dry will result in significant loss of performance in the product.

Waste of Time These pads were easy to fix to the back of the number plate but it was impossible to remove the second (green) backing strip without destroying the pads. I had to give up and fix the plates with screws instead. 15 July 2012

Life Saver My number plate got cracked just after my MOT and I used these to fix it and to re-fix to my car .provided you clean all the areas thoroughly these are great. Had no problems getting the back off 10 October 2010
Oh so disappointing The first side release paper is fine, allowing the pad to be stuck to the plate. The second side plastic release strip is ludicrously difficult to remove, seriously damaging the entire strip. I'm very dubious if the whole thing is going to hold now, altho' it appears firm The Halfords 6mm thick strips are an altogether better item. 10 August 2010

rubbish tape lasted 2 days then plate fell off and i lost the plate , great 01 March 2010
VERY difficult to apply Having found that normal double sided tape doesn't work I purchased this. Price was reasonable for Halfords. The tape comes with material on either side which obviously has to be removed. Removing 1 side was fine, but the biggest problem is getting the other side off! It is stupidly difficult! After half an hour of frustrating struggling, you can eventually stick your plate on where it should stay because adhesion is great. I would recommend this product, only because I am unaware of any alternatives. 30 January 2010
Not wide enough Title says is mostly - these need to be about twice as wide to provide good contact. 08 September 2009

Double sided tape

I wish to change registration plates, to cherished plates, but existing plates are adhered with double sided tape. Is there a disolvent on the market? Many thanks

Answer: 
Remove the plate carefully by easing it away gradually top and bottom. Then remove the old pads with something non-metallic that won't damage the paintwork. I then used WD40 and a non-stick scouring pad to remove the remaining residue.
