Why Buy a Roof Mounted Carrier?

Ideal. I needed a rooftop option and these were very well priced (added bonus buying them during a promotion). The build quality seems strurdy and well put together and all easily fitted to my existing Thule roofbars. My only gripe, and this may fade with time, is the bike clamp locking mechanism. The clamp seems to allow you to tighten it until really secure but then the lock won't turn; it seems as though the clamp is over rotated. The lock turns once you release it a couple of turns - not too many as the bike seems less secure. Either way, the bikes (3) have remained securely on the car on the several long and winding trips I have made . A good buy and well worth your consideration. 25 April 2011
Good value My first experience of roof based cycle racks, but very positive compared to "boot carriers". Hardest thing is getting the bikes on the roof of an XC90 as it is quite tall. But they are quite easy to fit once up. Motorway use is no problem. Other reviews seem to have issue with the locks but they work fine for me. 22 February 2011
cycle carrier excellent bit of kit. Easy to fit and adjust. Quick removal when required. 17 October 2010
Extremely sturdy We bought two sets of these. (i.e for 4 bikes). Managed to arrange them on the roof bars alternately front and backward facing so all 4 fitted on the rack no problem. Took the bikes to Isle of Wight, over 500 miles round trip, no problems at all. The racks lock to the roof bars and the bikes lock to the rack so they are quite secure too. Random keys is a bit of a pain but thats a minor gripe. In my view, don't hesitate to buy them. 16 August 2010
Halfords 2 Roof Mount Cycle Carriers This is Great product, which fitted very well and was easy to fit too. It looks to be well made and robust. 16 May 2010
Halfords 2 Roof Mount Cycle Carriers A decent product, the bikes stayed firm on the rack although the locking mechanism is rather poor - it doesn't lock property and if fastended too tightly will not re-open. Obviously this is a problem when the bikes are secured to the roof. The service i recieved in-store however was very good. I ordered online and collected the product within the hour. The product was there ready for me and the member of staff was friendly, polite and helpful 30 April 2010
Get the Advanced ones, NOT these Bought these when they were the only ones available in Halfords. Needed another and went to another branch that only had the Halfords Advanced ones (£15 more). Tried both out that afternoon to compare. By the end of one trip of 30 miles the advanced ones were rock solid, secure and giving me confidence. These regular ones had a broken lock, a bike that had wiggled free from the central vice grip and flaps to secure to the roof bars that didn't seem to flap down properly. Needless to say, this item was returned but I'll keep the advanced ones. Avoid. Go for the advance ones in the black and orange packaging, NOT these in the blue packaging. 30 March 2010
Poor Item I used these bike holders once and found them so fiddly and the bikes moved so much on the roof that I've never used them again. I now use a tow bar mounted rack that is much stronger and more secure. 01 September 2009

There is not an extension for Halfords Cycle Carriers. We recommend you visit your local Halfords store where a trained colleague will be able to assist in selecting the most suitable carrier for your Renault Kangoo.

I purchased 4 of these cycle racks (2 x 2 packs) about 3 years ago and they have served me well. However, some of the locks are now inoperable and the barrels come out of their housing.

Answer:
Yes the Halfords 2 Roof Mount Cycle Carrier is suitable for use with standard Thule Roof Bars. You may need a T Track adapter for use with Thule Aero bars. Your local Halfords store will be able to advise on this.
