The Halfords Rear High Mount 3 Cycle Carrier Strap Fitting offers the convenience of coming already fully assembled with an advanced ratchet system which allows for frame manipulation, making it easy to fit the carrier as well as fold flat when you need to store it away.

The integral red cycle retaining straps of the cycle carrier are very important as they help to prevent the movement of the cycles during transit, keeping them in a safe position so they do not damage your car. The carrier's high density foam pads then help to protect the cycles from the carrier contact.

  • Not suitable for vehicles with side opening or split tailgates

To ensure full compliance with road traffic regulations the use of a lighting board/number plate is required if your vehicle's existing lights/number plate are obscured by this carrier. This is particularly important for vehicles with high mounted rear lights.

Fitting Do's And Don'ts

Positioning

  • Try to position the bottom tube onto the top of the bumper, or in the number plate recess.
  • Always position the top tube onto suitable bodywork, or on the edges of the rear window
  • Always ensure that the cycle support arms are tilted slightly upwards
  • Do not mount directly onto or against a spoiler
  • Do not position the top tube in the centre of the rear window

Top Straps:

  • Thread underneath high mount spoilers if possible
  • Do not use panel hooks on glass or composite edges

Side Straps

  • Position the side straps so that they are the shortest distance between the cambuckle and the side edge
  • Do not use panel hooks on glass or composite edges

Bottom Straps

  • Attach to a suitable chassis point (e.g towing eye, steel chassis section, bumper support)
  • Never attach to edge of bumper
  • Never attach to edge of boot
  • Never position straps near to or in contact with exhaust

Does what it should Bought this for a recent holiday, was sceptical as it doesn't look like it should work but it does. Instructions were very easy to follow and it was fitted easily to our Ford Fiesta in about 15-20mins. Bikes loaded and strapped on, drove about 5 miles and checked all straps were tight as advised in the instructions, no problems found so carried on. All in all, very pleased with the product. 16 March 2012

Good Product, Shame about the manual.... Perhaps this is a bit quick to review this item as "Technically" I've not used it yet. Having spent an hour diligently following the manual trying to get this thing attached to the back of my car (Vauxhall Corsa).... I still wasn't really happy with the security of it as we toddled off to Halfords to pick up my bike. Got bike - said the v helpful chap "Do you think you could have a little look at this bike carrier? Make sure I've put it on right?" Sure - no problem. Helpful chap came out and said - "you know those extra fittings in the car shaped like dumbbells...?" "Yessssssssss" I said... "Use them" he said. However, in the manual it says that these items are extra fittings for a particular type of Renault. PLEASE PLEASE change your manual!!!!!! 29 May 2012
Halfords Rear High Mount 3 Cycle Carrier Strap Fit I chose to get this Rack mainly because Halfords Bank Holiday Offer was brought to my attention by a promotional email. Until I was offered "one last chance" at the end of BH Monday, long after the end of Trading Hours. I needed to transport some Cycles and was becoming wary of constantly using the inside of the Car. Initial Assembly was suitably confusing and hard to follow, but after about 15/20 minutes, the process was becoming far more slick. I have now used it for a short period of time and am wondering why I waited SO long to acquire one, apart from the Restrictive Pricing! When One is managing a very modest Budget, an understanding of the delay becomes clearer. Overall, I am very happy with this Carrier/Rack. The ingenious use of three Anchor Points give considerable stability to the Fit. I had not fully appreciated this level of stability would be required. Then, the 'easy-fit' nature of the actual Cycle Mounting Points was as surprising as it was straight-forward. 22 May 2012
Good value - bike carrier The carrier is quite light. I found the instructions poor, it only really makes sense when you put it on your car. I had trouble initially unfolding the carrier. It seemed to fit well on our Honda Civic. There are only 6 narrow straps holding carrier into position. 2 at the top hatch hinge, 2 at the sides (hatch glass) and 2 to the bottom chassis. The max weight claimed to carry is 45 kg. I managed to get 2 adult bikes and large child's bike to fit within this limit. I do think it requires a bit of sensible judgement on how it balances on the cushion frames, and to ensure straps are tight and secure. Help maybe needed loading and unloading the carrier. I wasn't entirely comfortable with such weight on the back, particularly when cornering. However straps remained tight during transit with no problems, although I'd only recommend 2 Adult bikes at a time. 21 May 2012
High Mount Cycle Rack The cycle rack was out of its box and on the car in five minutes so simply to fit and use between all our cars. The kids now have no excuse but to come with us to cycle into the counrtyside as their bikes fitt on the roof and ours hang off the back. 15 May 2012
Very adaptable brought this to fit on three cars, and pleased to say thats exactly what it does, a people carrier, hatchback, and estate. Great value, and no need to worry about electrics and number board. Tha straps to the top fit inside the boot lid, so no scratched paint. 24 April 2012

I have already bought this rear mount and I am unsure what to do with low straps as nothing to hook onto underneath bumper or rear. Therefore the mount can still move and I feel it is not secure enough. Can you advise if I should just leave the low straps off?

The Halfords Rear High Mount 3 Cycle Carrier is unsuitable for your 2012 Volvo V60 - this is the same for all Halfords rear mount cycle carriers. We advise the use of either a roofmount carrier (which requires roofbars) or if your vehicle has a towbar, then this type of carrier is also suitable but please check the nose-weight of your vehicle

Unfortunately your 62 plate Volkswagen Caravelle Executive hasn't been tested with the Halfords Rear High Mount 3 Cycle Carrier Strap Fitting or any other Halfords Rear Cycle Carrier. Alternatively, we advise the use of either a roofmount carrier (which requires roofbars) or if your vehicle has a towbar, then this type of carrier is also suitable but please check the nose-weight of your vehicle
