Essentail for a new lighting board Bought this as I have also purchased a cycle rack and needed a lighting board. Everything you need is in this kit. The picture is misleading as the 7 pin plug is pre-wired and the audible relay is a lot better than the picture. Biggest problem I had was getting to my cars wiring but once I had found them it was straightforward after that. Can easily be done as a DIY project. Some essential tools you will need are a 12v Circuit tester (so you can identify the correct wire in your car), some insulating tape and a good pair of pliers. I also had to get some extra 5amp wire and connectors but this was because my cars wiring was split down both sides of the car (58 plate Focus) and the existing wires weren't long enough but that was soon sorted. 17 May 2010

The suitability of the Halfords Cycle Carrier Lighting Board Wiring Kit depends on whether you have a 7 pin electrical towing socket and not on individual vehicles.

Will this work with My Astra which has a 13 pin socket in the boot fuse box.

Or do you wire up to the exisiting lights

The Halfords Cycle Carrier Lighting Board Wiring Kit won't work with a 13 pin socket. There is a 13 to 7 plug in adaptor available (197502) which enables a 7 pin plug as fitted to the lighting board wiring kit (910661) to connect to a 13 pin socket.

Or do you have to uninstall the wiring kit each time you're not using the lighting board to get the cars rear lights to function? Just want to make sure!

The Halfords Cycle Carrier Lighting Board Wiring Kit will allow you to use your rear lights whilst using the cycle carrier lighting board. This means you do not need to uninstall the wiring kit each time it is not in use.

Please help. I brought the lighting board and wiring kit but I can't tell if my vehicle has an exisiting lighting connection.

Answer: 
You will need to use the wiring and connections included with the bypass relay, and connect in-line to the vehicles rear light cluster wiring harness. You will then be able to plug the lighting board into the trailing socket in the boot. If you are still unsure, we would advise you to visit your local Halfords store where a member of staff will be more than happy to advise you further.
