A battery It's a battery, about so big & grey in colour. Put a finger on each terminal & your eyes light. The car now starts ok, which it has not done since the old battery went flat. 24 March 2012
Great Service. Great Product. We reserved this at our local branch, the reservation was confirmed by text and indeed the branch phoned to say the battery was ready and waiting. We collected the battery, fitted it and its been as good as gold. Coundn't ask for more. Very impressed. 21 February 2012
HCB063 Battery Quality battery which i bought back in june 2007 so has lasted 4.5 years (6 months after the warranty ran out) and its only just showing signs of giving up the ghost and for that reason ive just bought another halfords calcium battery, its for the wifes car and she does a lot of stop/starts and short distance driving so its had a hard life, might seem expensive to some but buy cheap and pay twice... 28 November 2011
Halfords Car Battery - HCB063 Good battery with guarantee at a great price. Was actually cheaper in store than online which was an added bonus. Very happy. 08 October 2011
Straight forward product The product was a simple replacement. for a worn out battery. I used the reserve and collect to ensure the product was available. The car as excepted fired up first time. I will have to see if the 4 year warranty is of any use 16 April 2011
Not Happy Used the website by putting by quoting my car registration to bring up the items for the vehicle. Turned out it was the wrong item. Had to get a refund. 07 April 2011

Answer:
A fully charged battery will show 12.5 volts.
It is possible to charge a battery above 12.5 volts. Charging a battery above 14.4 volts will cause the battery to gas and electrolyte will be lost.

The code on my HCB063 battery appears to be "F2C892103 0890 Z44" but is difficult to read. According to the RAC the battery has failed but I do not have the receipt as it was replaced whilst the car was on loan to my son. Can I tell from the code when the battery was manufactured? The battery was a replacement for on "04" registered vehicle and was purchased within the last couple of years.

Answer:
Two different date codes are used, one is the month and year stamped near the terminals and the other is a month and year sticker on side of battery. You will require your receipt as proof of purchase to make any claim under the guarantee.

I'm sure the battery (HCB063) is not very old but it is not holding charge and goes flat over a day or so when not connected to anything.

Answer:
The number is the month and year of production. If the battery is in a low state of the charge, the battery charger may not be sophisitcated enough to recharge the battery correctly - this is common with older / budget chargers being used on calcium batteries. Also, if the battery has been left in a low state of charge - ie below 12.4volts, sulphation damage may have started. This is a chemical reaction that takes place within the battery - the sulphate from the sulphuric acid attaches itself to the plates - if it is allowed to 'crystalise' it forms permanent and irresversible damage to the plates that prevents the battery absorbing the charge.
