excellent gadget Bought a sat nav but didn't want to stick it on the windscreen so bought one of these. Fantastic! Didn't move at all even on sharp bends, roundabouts and even an emergency stop. Take the sat nav with us when we leave the car and hide the accessories, no marks on the windscreen to let would be car thieves know we could have a sat nav hidden under the seat! not impressed good attachment of sat nav to mat but mat not exactly stable. ok along easy roads but unpredictable around roundabouts and sharp corners. 21 May 2011
Good Purchase Not wanting to leave marks on the screen or dash with a sticky pad for holding a Sat Nav I opted for the friction pad. Its perfect, does not move and locks the sat nav holder in place. 26 April 2011
Garmin Sat Nav Mount Used a product similair to this one in USA and have searched all over for one like it here! So was very pleased to find it! It sits neatly on my dashboard and can be put away without leaving circular 'giveaway' marks on the windscreen! Brilliant product! 18 March 2011

i have seen on other sites that this mount fits all nuvi models even including 700 and 800 models are there two kinds of this mount

I recently bought a Garmin Nuvi 205W and my local Halfords store told me the portable friction mount was compatable. However, having just bought the mount, I don't know how to attach my GPS. Could you explain it to me, please??!

Answer: 
Snap the mount supplied with your satnav originally onto the new arm that replaces the suction cup. The arm is then fitted to the friction mount. If necessary it can be twisted on the base for improved positioning

Answer: 
You will need to take off the suction cup bit from your old mount first. Just pull the ball out of the socket and you are left with a fitting that slides into your new mount.

There is an arm that comes out of the centre of the mount which fits directly into your Garmin monitor.
You are able to swivel the arm around to the correct position and the lock the arm, you are still able to tilt the monitor even when locked
The friction mount then sits happily on your dashboard and it really doesn't move
