not quite up to the job The stand was smaller than I thought, I expected the whole bike to be raised but the stand is only large enough to raise rear wheel. I have a med sized 29er mtb and I need to be careful not to over balance the stand...having said that now I have got use to its limitations I use it regularly for chain/derailier oiling. 17 May 2012
Value for money, does what it says on the tin Easy to put together, after a few minutes adjusting the heights of the hooks I was able to make it support my Carrera Vengeance quite well and should not topple over, fairly well made, but may not suit a heavier bike though. The plastic hook covers prevents scratching, overall quite please with product. 22 April 2012
You get's what you pay for I read all the reviews and bought this to use as an extra pair of hands while assembling a new 20” frame hybrid. It’s a little unstable, but I found it very useful and now use it to store the bike adjust gears etc. For the price it’s excellent and the base could be extended reasonably easily to add stability if necessary. 02 April 2012
Avoid this product for adult bikes Bought this to be able to get the back wheel of the ground to work and clean my bike. Its easy to put together but it doesnt hold the bike, I just couldnt see how it would on a 700x28 commuter. It ended up breaking one of my cable ties and they I binned it and washed the bike against the wall. 26 March 2012
Emergency Purchase I bought this Halfords Storage and Maintenance Stand to enable me to make adjustments to the gear changing mechanism on my bike. It proved only to be just "adequate" and would, in my opinion, not be suitable for full cycle maintenance jobs. The stand is not very sturdy and needs to be used with considerable care. However, I was only just about able to make the necessary checks and adjustments as required. 22 March 2012
very usefull purchase this product does exactly what it says on the box it holds my folding bike very firmly it is compact and light and easy to store when not it use i would recomend these product to anybody as good value and an excelent product 14 January 2012
RUBBISH !!!! TOO SMALL ,TOO LIGHT ,FEET NOT LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE IT STABLE WE HAVE LIGHTWEIGHT XC BIKES AND THIS STAND WOULDN'T EVEN HOLD THEM STABLE, MY 7 YR OLD SON'S 20 INCH WHEEL BIKE OK BUT THAT WAS IT !...TAKING IT STRAIGHT BACK FOR REFUND AS LEANING BIKE AGAINST THE WALL TO CLEAN , IS CHEAPER AND IT WON'T FALL OVER . 11 January 2012
Does the job This is an excellent value stand, makes maintaining and cleaning your bike so much easier. Just make sure the bike is correctly balanced on the stand as it can be quite unstable if not correctly mounted. Otherwise a really good buy. 05 November 2011

Answer: 
The 2 hooks on the stand hold the rear stays on the bike, you therefore lift the bike onto the stand, which will hold the rear wheel off the ground allowing you to turn the pedals.
