great value tool I bought this tool to replace those awful cross head screws that seem to chew up the moment you go near them, a conventional screw driver had no effect, so I employed this and 45 minutes later, everyone of them had been removed.this tool isnt the best quality on the market, but it certainly isnt the worst either, and for the price, I was quite impressed with it 13 May 2012
2 hits then broke Only hit it twice and it broke!! No problem with refund but is a hassle when you live out of town. Dont buy if you need something substantial. 16 March 2012
Its works well. It works well, has a good selection of bits, this is my second as the first one broke but was using it a lot and the warranty swap was no problem 15 December 2011
not great Bought this took it home and then used to remove a seized nut hit the driver twice and it fell apart.took it back and got a full refund 18 May 2011
Got me out of trouble I purchased this Impact Driver when I managed to snap off an electrode on one of my seized spark plugs. Unfortunately the spark plug would not come out even with a rather large 1/2" breaker bar, so I had to resort to using an Impact Driver (which you're not really supposed to use on spark plugs in case you damage the weak thread). To my surprise, I fitted this with an impact socket to the seized spark plug, gave it a few large hits with a 16oz hammer, put the 1/2" bar back on, and hey presto, the spark plug was free! The cylinder head thread looked great, surprisingly as I just used an impact driver. I then fitted a new spark plug, it's been running like a dream since. This Impact Driver really saved me when the car needed to be used the next day to take my brother to work! Overall, this was cheap, got me out of trouble and seems like good build quality. Case could be better, but for the price it is excellent! 31 January 2011
Well worth the money I purchased the Halfords Advanced Impact Driver & Bits to use on the door hinges on my landrover. Since then I've found I can also use the bits with my socket set too. Absolutely great value for the money, well made, works well, supplied with all the right bits. I cannot fault it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Much as I would the rest of the Halford's tool range. 24 January 2011
unsure of this one I have not used this tool yet however it feels cheap the box it is supplied with does not fit the tool properly almost has that feeling its was bought from that shop where every thing is the same price .iam glad it is covered by the life time guarentee coz i think i will be returning with this one 08 January 2011
Made an Impact! Reserved and purchased on a Sunday and used same day. Robust construction and comes in a metal case. Does what it says on the tin! 09 November 2010

Is this impact driver the sort of thing you would use to undo a stubborn wheel nut. It is too tight for me to undo using the standard brace.

Yes you can but a breaker bar is less risky if you have alloys

Answer:
By standard brace I assume you mean the less than 300mm one usually supplied with the screw jack in the car?
If this is the case first step would be to try an extending wheel wrench, if this fails then possibly try using the impact wrench. Best bet would be to take it back to where your tyres were fitted or last service carried out and get them to loosen them off as they were done up too tight.
However if you have Alloy Wheels and your fixings have been done up too tight there maybe some damage.

Answer:
The best bet would probably be a proper air powered impact wrench, but as they're rather expensive, you could definetely try using this with a large hammer!

The Impact driver will deliver a short sharp shock which may begin to get the wheel nut moving, You will need to purchase the correct size 1/2" impact socket to use with this tool.

Answer:
You hit it hard with a hammer, only electric or air impact drivers are powered. The only limit is how hard you can hit it.

This is powered by using a hammer on the back of it - I guess the max torque is how hard you can hit it!
