An eye-catching classic This retro style of bike is getting known as a 'Classic Bike' in some circles. The Pashley Tube Rider is certainly that. It's very well-built, with good quality components and a sturdy hand-built frame. I’ve had my Tube Rider for about 2 – 3 months now, using it as my main commuter on level-ish city roads (York) and cycle tracks. So far I’d say it’s the best bike of its type I’ve owned in more than 40 years on two wheels. With a rear pannier rack added, sprayed in approximately the colour of the mudguards, and an attaching bag, it’s the ideal commuter bike. The rider’s head is up - it’s easy to check behind, the 5-speed Sturmey Archer hub gears are easy and nicely spaced for the hills and the Sturmey Archer hub brakes are impervious to the wet conditions around this summer. The seat is very comfortable once worn-in although I’d recommend looping through the seat when you’re locking up as it’s a valuable piece and it attaches with a quick-release lever. I find I ride a little more slowly on the Tube Rider than on other road bikes and that’s probably a good thing on the crowded urban roads today. Some will find the bike a bit on the heavy side (front-heavy) but it is very stable and responds well with an easy turn of speed when asked. For the more colour-conservative Pashley do also produce this beauty in other, more toned-down, colour combinations. Best bits? It looks fabulous, it’s made in England, it’s big enough for a full-size adult (I’m 6’2”) and it’s an enjoyable, comfortable and safe city bike alternative. All I need now is the propeller baseball cap. Anyone? 12 July 2012

Medium-heavy, It's heavier at the front end but is easy to handle and very stable and, for example, brakes well in emergencies. I'm a postie and find it relatively light compared to the Pashley post bikes. I just posted a positive review here which might be of use to you. Regards
