Service Ordered quite a few things from Halfords for my son recently, in all cases the service from the staf was good, even calling me to check that I was after the right thing. cant fault the products so far either 13 March 2012
Adapting a folding bike Bought this to adjust the handlebar height on my wifes folding bike (she's 4ft 10"). The bike stem height was not adjustable so had to shorten the existing support tube by 4", then tap in and tighten the quill. A Bikehut 90mm stem fixed on the top of the quill did the trick and she can now reach the handlebars with ease. Just what I'd been looking for. Well done guys! 23 February 2011

Does everything it is supposed to Sturdy, easy to fit, clamps firmly and looks OK. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, so can't fault it. 23 August 2010

Answer: 
This stem adapter does not require any spacers as the Headset bearings are already preloaded through via the original threaded adjustment system of the headset. The bolts to clamp down the stem would be part of the stem and not this adapter assembly.

This adapter works in a very similar way to a standard quill stem. However, instead of the handlebar clamp there is a blank shaft. This shaft is a 1.1/8th size and therefore allows a standard 1.1/8th stem to be attached. The adapter itself is tightened into the steerer tube via a 6mm Hex key in the top of the adapter. The same process as is used with a standard quill stem.

This stem adapter is for 22.2 or 25.4mm only. The 21.1mm version is an obsolete size now and not readily available.
