Don't bother Had this bike for 8 months now, and it has caused me nothing but trouble. As with other reviews, I have had serious issues with inner tubes bursting repeatedly, down to the point where I have been told that the whole wheel needs replacing. Added to this are issues with the brakes (which are not V brakes, as I have noticed in the description) and gears. which constantly shift when riding. Not that much difference between different gear changes and very hard to go up hilly areas. I admit that I may have overused this bike; I use it for a regular commute, although it is only about 3 miles a day. All in all, as they always say, you get what you pay for. If you want this bike for small recreational purposes then go for it but if you need it for an actual purpose don't bother - I am going to have to buy a new bike now. Waste of money!! 03 April 2013
Wonderful bike at reasonable price I have always wanted to ride a bicycle but never really bought one by myself. This bike is exactly what I wanted, with a very reasonable price and a wonderful function so far. The bike is light in weight and can be easily manoeuvered whether going uphill or downhill. The gears could be effortlessly shifted in between the cycling journey. The brakes are robust and accurate, this is the most important thing for me. Though I must say that the seat is a bit uncomfortable for everyday commuting or riding in country parks. But other than that, the bike is just the perfect thing you would want at such a reasonable price. I am very happy with the product!! 14 October 2012
Unreliable and waste of money. Bought this bike as wanted to get back into cycling and anticipated going on mainly cycle tracks / light dirt trails so hybrid seemed the best option. The bike rides well although I would recommend investing slightly more money or getting a decent second hand bike to start off with for new cyclists - the looks aren't that great and the gears can be a bit fiddly although aren't too difficult to get used to. There's not much variation between upper 2nd gears and lower 3rd. Seat is very uncomfortable for longer rides but this can be replaced by purchasing a new saddle. I haven't ridden any severe offroad trails but have had several repeated punctures, to the extent where the inner tube has punctured while the bike tyre has been checked and repaired, upside down, with no pressure on it whatsoever and still deflated! It appears to be a problem with the wheel but I am now so thoroughly demotivated with the thought of pumping any more money into this piece of metal, that I don't think I can find the effort to replace the wheel. All in all, if you're looking for a cheap bike for basic leisurely short rides on road then this is for you. Personally, I'd invest slightly more money in a much more decent bike that will last a lot longer and cost less to repair! 12 July 2012

Excellent bike Just bought this bike a couple of days ago in order to teach my girlfriend how to ride a bike! The bike is really solid and it took her less than 60 minutes to learn how to use it! 14 April 2012
Terrible bike I brought this bike about 8 months ago and it literally fell to pieces within a few months despite me keeping it in the best shape possible. A good bike if you are going to only have it for minimal use, not good for commuting to work. I am now off to buy myself a Pashley which will last me for 8 years rather than 8 months, better value for money in the long run. Only buy this bike if you are prepared for all the maintenance that is required for such a cheaply made bicycle. 11 April 2012

Answer: 
The right hand gear shifter is for your rear gears. These are 'fine tune' adjustments to your riding. The left hand shifter is for your front gears. These are for 'major adjustments'.

The lower the number, the easier the gear i.e. for going slower/uphill.
The higher the number, the harder the gear i.e. for going fast/downhill.

If you are not used to gears the best option would be to leave the left hand shifter (front gears) in gear '2', and just use the right hand shifter for your rear gears.

If you are still confused about the workings of the gears, the staff at your local Halfords store will be happy to assist you.

This will depend on the type of your Basil Basket. However, the BasEasy System 1 bracket should fit any quill stem between 22mm - 26mm in diameter. This part can be Special Ordered from your local Halfords store.
