Boardman CX Team Picked up a CX Team after my commuter bike was stolen recently. I wanted a better training bike to commute with that also had disc brakes for cycling in town especially in the wet. The geometry is somewhat different from my previous hybrid bike so I'm currently in the process of getting used to it. For a medium I noticed the seat stem does recline quite far back and it does have an unusually long front stem (115mm), making the front part of the bars quite a reach. I suspect I will replace the stem with a shorter one soon. Unfortunately my Halfords buying experience was pretty poor to say the least. The bike wasn't ready and had not been set up even after being given a collection time and date. I was more than happy to take it as it was as I gave it to a professional local bike dealer to set up properly. The staff knew nothing about the bike or the warranty issues and simply started guessing, which is never a good thing when selling something that costs nearly £1k. I've since found some independent specialists that sell the CX range and wished I purchased the bike from them but you live and learn. The bike runs absolutely silently and the brakes are amazing (my first experience with discs) so makes it ideal for commuting but I love the fact that my commuter bike now has a similar set up to my road bike. Some of the front cables rubs against the front forks and after some online investigation I've had to protect the forks with some tape and the constant rubbing removes the paint work pretty quickly. This is a design issue more than anything. I noticed my BB came properly greased, which was great as previous customers (mostly from 2012) have had some bad experiences with this. All in all great bike and very pleased with it now. 09 April 2013
What a great bike!! I bought this bike on the strength of the reviews and also found a volcher code on-line so got a little bit of money off. It really is a superb bike!!! I have had the bike about two weeks and I think I have ridden it 10 days out of the 14 and I'm still smiling. If I do change one thing it will be the front mech as it doesn't perform as well as I want it to but that won't cost a huge amount. If you are thinking of buying a cyclocross bike then look no further, for the money you can't go wrong!! 11 February 2013
Great commuter and all-rounder Purchased through CTW as my road-bike was getting a bit beaten up by London’s potholes and standard cantilevers didn’t give me much assistance with u-turning taxis and solipsistic pedestrians. Somewhat inconvenient stocking policy meant that only shop with it wasn’t very local to me, however hard to fault the in-store service from Catford. Chris who set it up couldn’t have been more helpful and did it all as I waited, despite me being earlier than expected. As a piece of kit it’s fantastic for intended commuting use. Easy to fit robust mudguards to (ignore the incorrect Halfords advice on this site – SKS mudguards fit easily to it, although supports need to be bent around the front disc mech which is easy to do – see the CX Team Owners discussion on Bike Radar forums for details) and feels very sturdy. Great brakes, if fiddly to set up as single sided pad mechanism, that work wonders in wet and dry. V comfortable bars with a range of hand positions depending on speed needed, and traffic flow. Auxiliary brake levers great for traffic too. Stick some puncture resistant gatorskins on it and for me it’s the perfect city bike / commuter. And all round highly recommended for the price. 16 January 2013
Boardman cyclo cross bike Bike is well designed and well equipped. I bought it to commute and to use as a winter training bike. Bike assembly was pretty bad and the bottom bracket had to be replaced after 150miles. Halfords did replace bearings but I had to travel to find a store to fit them quickly. I set the bike up and it runs like a dream, I can recommend. 07 January 2013
Great all rounder and fantastic value Purchased in Coolick, Dublin. Fantastic value especially when compared to similarly specified CX bikes. I use mine as a winter trainer and commuter (3 days a week). I keep the carbon road bike for summer. I changed the tyres to 23mm Gatorskins for the road & commuting, but still have the originals if required. 20 February 2013
It's a great all round roadie/CX bike "This is really an great value bike! Its labelled as an CX but in reality its more an rugged road-bike with disc-brakes and that suits me really well. So if you're looking for an CX to race with this is maybe not for you, but if you want an great commuter/do-at-all road-bike this is it! 09 February 2013
Boardman Team CX I had high expectations of this bike after reading some excellent reviews in the cycling press, and so far I have not been disappointed. The bike is outstanding. Lightweight for a CX bike, the bike has first-rate components and a simply gorgeous frame. The finish makes it look more like carbon. I am a Campagnolo fan, but have to say the SRAM kit matches this bike perfectly and is very smooth and precise. The mechanical disc brakes work a treat in nasty conditions giving a confident ride both on and off road. I will be using this as my winter hack, my commuter and for some off-road fun. 08 February 2013
Totally bonkers bike! Bought this as a winter bike as I am fed up with riding my carbon road bike over gravel, leaves, mud and potholes, mountain bikes are too slow. I have never considered a cyclocross bike before and I feel like I have missed out on so much fun. This bike is absolutely amazing. Picked it up on christmas eve have done about 120 miles so far mainly on road but have done some off road aswell. First impressions are that this is possibly the best bike I have ridden. It is comfortable and versatile and fast. I have left the Ritchey tyres on and there is nothing wrong with them. On the road it is only 1 mph slower than my carbon road bike in winter conditions and off road it copes with mud and bumpy terrain really well. Riding at 20mph on a bridleway on what feels like a road bike is totally bonkers and great fun. I have tried it on a variety of bridleways and have found its limit. It copes with mud and gravel well but if you take it on serious off road you will have to slow it down compared to a hardtail mountain bike as it will struggle with large rocks and deep holes. Cant see the point of the brake levers on the handlebars and they restrict putting on light brackets as take up space. It has brought a whole new dimension to my winter riding and i no longer worry about going out in the bad weather. I can try out different routes with a mixture of on off road. I intend to use this as a tourer also with Lands End/John O'Groats on my to do list. I have bought some 28 conti's road tyres but i am not going to put them on yet as i want to try out as much off road on it as possible before i do that!
