a handy device a step forward from a tow line. after a couple of dodgy corner's my wife got the knack of actually following the car in front. saved a fortune in an emergency situation, much cheaper than calling out the tow truck. if i only use it once, it was still worth the purchase price. 26 May 2012
Good piece of kit ! Got this as I needed to tow a car qucikly. Easy to assemble , and I towed a Vauxhall van for approx 15 miles with no problem at all. Easier than a rope as no slack to take up. Comes in a nice carrying bag. 30 April 2012
Good Product Good product & excellent value which really got me out of an awkward suituation. Keep the bar as straight as possible especially underbraking. (Towing eye point started to bend). Easy to assemble and pack away. 26 February 2012
Mr D Shaw Easy to use, towed my son 20 miles with no problems.The last time I towed anyone i was with a rope, allways snatching fear of breaking the rope. The only fault as such is the tow sign should be magnatised so it can stick ro the car etc being towed. 24 December 2011

Better than a rope! Bought this to tow a non-running MG home for restoration. Very easy to assemble and gave much more piece of mind to both me and my friend in the towed car than a rope would have done. (weren't sure how good the brakes were on the MG!!) Towed vehicle has to have some braking ability as this pole will not totally prevent contact between them in the event of a sudden stop. Have seen cheaper versions available but the quality of this one with the added damping was very good. Instructions with it say 15mph limit when towing but on straight clear roads it felt safe at slightly higher speeds!! 02 December 2011

Better than tow rope This is quite a robust product, in three sections in it's own bag with carry handle. The bag, marked on tow, can usefully be placed in the rear window of the towed vehicle to warn following drivers. It is quite easy to assemble, with assistance from the enclosed diagrams. The only fiddly bit is making the attachment to the second car (as the bar is rigid and the tow eyes of the cars wont necessarily be lined-up, a little jiggling may be required). My first tow with the pole (a bit of an emergency, courtesy of a handbag and contents thief!) included several roundabouts, hill starts and some uphill 1 in 6. Aside from the slack between the hooks and the two car tow eyes, it was a smooth experience. With an inexperienced person at the wheel of the towed car, it proved a safer bet than a tow rope. No worries about taking-up the slack and so no damage was caused. If the need arises, I shall definitely use it again. Perhaps a bit of rigid, rubber insert to take-up the small amount of play in the tow eyes would be an improvement on a sound product. 20 September 2011

Depends what sort of tow hitch ?

If you have the ball type then I would say no , as each end has a hook.

If you have a pin type hitch then yes the hook could be put on the pin

No the Hilka Rigid Steel Towing Pole is not suitable for use with a tow hitch as it needs to be hooked through suitable towing eyes.
