The Halfords 4 Bike Tow Bar Cycle Carrier can carry up to 4 bikes and has soft, adjustable padded arms that support the bikes whilst travelling.

The cycle carrier is very easy to install and due to the fact the bikes are carried on the cars tow bar leaving the roof free, makes it ideal when you are heading off on holiday as you can then also have a roof box on the top of your car.

Will this carrier fit my car?

This cycle carrier should fit your car if you have a 50mm standard towball attached - this includes flange, swan neck and detachable tow bars. It is important that you check the nose weight of your car to ensure this cycle carrier is suitable.

Consult your car owner's manual to check the maximum permitted towbar 'nose weight' for your vehicle. 'Nose weight' is the downwards force that the towbar can support.

To use this carrier loaded with four adult bikes, your towbar must be capable of carrying a weight of at least 75kg.

Good Value Bike Rack I required a 4x cycle carrier and having reviewed the Halfords version online (out of stock in local branch) I then searched for alternatives. I couldn't find anything close in terms of price and ended up purchasing the Halfords one. The box is heavy and you may have trouble transporting it home if you've a small car boot or the back seats are unavailable. It was well packaged and appears well manufactured. Fairly easy to assemble except I had difficulty screwing on the light board with the supplied screw driver / allen key combo tool and had to use a better tool for increased leverage. A numberplate is required which is extra and you need your vehicle log book and drivers license to purchase. The carrier appears to be a secure fitting but I'm yet to take on a long distance journey and only time will tell with how long it will last. However, I've had the 2 bike carrier for years without any trouble so I'm expecting lots of trouble free years. The carrier is fitted to a Land Cruiser LC3 2005 with rear door spare wheel mounting. The bikes on the carrier do not clash with the spare wheel but I've put the smallest bike in the first position. You get lots of straps too which is a good bonus. 20 May 2012
Best Bike carrier excellant product, easily holds 4 bikes safely, very little movement on the carrier and you soon become comfortable with it on the back of the vehicle and the bikes are held so securely you can stop worrying about them falling off over every bump 09 May 2012
4 Bike Cycle Carrier This is a fantastic value item. The build quality is good and it is relatively easy to fit. I could not understand anyone buying a name brand when this work as well if not better. Highly recommended. 23 April 2012
great item perfect for the job used to have a standard bike rack that attached directly onto the back of the car not a tow bar we never liked it felt unsafe and scratched the car since getting a new car and having a tow bar this was a good buy bikes just simply strap on easily away from car and feels very safe we are even going to take it to France which we would never have dine with the previous one 19 April 2012

Halfords 4 bike towbar carrier Good value compared to other carriers on the market, Assembles in about 30 mins. Nice and secure when attached to the car, and easy to load as its fairly low down. 19 April 2012
Great value bike rack After a lot of research into tow bar racks for 4 bikes I plumped for this one and have no regrets (so far!) It offers brilliant value for money compared to similar carriers on the market. If I was being picky my only slight moans would be (a) when assembling the rack (which is very straightforward) some of the screws did not fit on the nuts very easily - a bit like flat pack furniture when the holes aren't quite the right size, and (b) I found it a little bit tricky tightening the nut on the tow bar attachment with the spanner provided because of lack of space - I have subsequently bought a locking nut which you can turn manually and locks the rack to the tow bar. Once on, the rack is very solid and the bikes are easy to attach - it does what it says on the packet. Things to note are that it does not tilt and it does not lock to the tow bar - nor do the bikes lock to the rack - but you can't have everything for this price. As I say, an excellent rack for the money. 18 April 2012

The Halfords 4 Bike Tow Bar Cycle Carrier weighs 18kg and without knowing the exact models of bikes, and assuming that they weigh under 15kg each adding an additional cycle will overload the maximum permitted nose weight of your vehicle.

The Halfords 4 Bike Tow Bar Cycle Carrier does not have a tilt function and is attached to the towbar using a pinch bolt which is loosened and tightened with a 19mm spanner. There is no facility for locking the cycle carrier to your vehicle.
