Sat Nav - update purchase Well made satnav. Spoken directions are clear and concise. Colours of Maps and indicators are easy on the eye . Start up time reasonably quick. tom tom the best sat navs This is my second tom tom sat nav.first one was tom tom go710 really good but kept on crashing,had it for seven years but gradually got worse so bought this new tom tom.so far so good tried out a few times now and no problems so far.features are very simular to my old one.would buy a tom tom cos they give you clear instruction nice and early. 05 May 2012

Great Purchase Purchased the tomtom xxl on a promotional price. I have other tomtoms that need the maps updating, but I thought it was cheaper to buy a new tomtom that`s already up to date. Works with tomtom home as opposed to my tomtom which is rubbish. Has a host of easy to use basic features & is extremely accurate. 24 April 2012
Much better than original TomTom Bought this in Halfords sale as my old one just died. It is slightly different to operate in that you are not automatically given route options when you programme in your destination, but if you go to "plan your route" you can then specify your options. The lane guidance is a very good feature, but absolutely the very best features are the bigger screen and the speed camera alerts - fantastic! 24 April 2012

Just before placing an order for this satnav I did some research and discovered a potential problem. People who had bought it found when updating mapping that it could not accept a download of the full western european maps. For instance. updates for UK and some countries but not all, claiming its memory is too small!
As I need a satnav that can receive the latest maps for at least 6 western europe countries + UK for extended holiday travel I'd luv to know if there is a real problem on updating maps.
It seems that those satisfied with this satnav's mapping only have it for UK use.

Back-up prior to downloading new maps. Think though why do you need a new map? Changes do not occur that often and what are the chances that your route will be affected? Very slight I should think!

No problems updating pre-installed countries and countries as they are added, no memory issues.
Very annoyed about TomTom's lack of interest in developing a map for Cyprus, considering that over a million brits visit there every year.......also the large amount of european's that also visit this country. There are other countries too that will not be added...... Poor show by Tom Tom for what is otherwise a good quality product and service

The size of TomTom maps is increasing. That’s because they are always adding more detail – such as new roads, additional points of interest and updated IQ Routes™ information– to make maps more accurate and thus improve your navigation experience.

As a result, you may find that when you buy a new map or update an existing map, the map you have chosen does not completely fit on your navigation device. To solve this, TomTom has divided some larger maps into smaller sections, called Map Zones.

I have recently bought a Classic XXL I was pleasantly surprised to find it did include input by lat / lon despite having read initially that it didn't allow this.

I had difficulty with a remote location in Tenerife but, following the help desk's advice, downloading the latest version of European maps cured this.
