My First Sat Nav I spent many months looking for a SatNav which did not have any horror reviews (1 or 2 stars). This was the first one I found wot only 4 and 5 star ratings so I bought it. I had great and helpful service from Halfords. I was not too happy with the initial instructions to upload new maps and software. Some instructions refered to older (HOME) software whilst this device required a newer (My TOMTOM) version. Halfway through the upgrade the device lost connection with the PC and generated lots of error messages. I was not sure how to recover it and at one stage I thought I had lost everything. This was not a good experience. Its possible to upload 3rd party Point of Interest files. This process seems very flaky and some of my settings and my Home location gets reset when I do this. In operation the SatNav does exactly what I would expect. Its a pleasure to use. The Live Services are particularly good advising you of problems and actually showing the problem locations on the map. The ability to show the whole map of the route and zoom in and out and navigate around it is particularly good, especially when you can show points of interest on the map and then select them for more details. The Google search is brilliant showing you a list of what you have searched for in order of distance for a defined location. I would certainly recommend this product. 19 May 2012
tomtom 820 live top gear editition uk &roi the best TomTom ive owned out of the last four Jermy Clarksons ads a lot of humour. well worth the extra money.The TomTom is fast toload up and the live services are also quick to load. The only problem when purchased was having to upload the data,this would be a problem for people who do not have a computer. 07 May 2012
Replacement Bought to replace old sat nav, maps are up to date and easy to download updates, easy to use and program, staff at store very helpful 30 April 2012
Pefect for my wife Purchased this for my wife rather than use the sat nav on her smart phone. Pro's - Easy to use, good size for handbag (she says) improvement over co-pilot on phone. Con's The start up guide and website are poor as it immediately forces an update to the unit and then does not go though the full set-up. Was left to sort out the data connection/setup myself - non techie may struggle with this 26 April 2012
Great liitle satnav another great product from tomtom. i Had a few problem when first using the LIVE functions, but that was because of the servers having had a fire recently. 15 April 2012

I'm trying to use my new Go Live 820 with the MyTomTom service - and it is asking for an activation code. The only codes on the box is a Part Number (PN 8ER4.xxx.xx) and a number under the bar code (FT521xxxxxx) but when I use either on the MyTomTom website it tells me "The activation code you have entered is not valid. Please try again.", despite the same code (FT521xxxxxx) being automatically determined by the MyTomTom service when it checks (correctly) which TT device I have, and copy + pasting the code into the required box.

I would take it back to the store and get them to sort it out. Mine worked straight out of the box and didn't ask for any code. This would suggest it hasn't been set up or has been "played" with.
