Families are using their savings to go away on holiday rather than keeping their pennies for a rainy day, a new survey suggests.
Brits are spending £50 billion a year on holidays - including camping and caravanning trips.
A quarter of those polled said they think the best way to spend money is by taking a vacation.
In addition, 33 per cent ranked going on expensive holidays among their top three priorities.
Director of savings and investments at Abbey Reza Attar-Zadeh said that people could still have their holidays as well as saving money for the future.
"If people cut back a small proportion of the amount they spent on holidays and kept their savings, this would make a real difference to their financial wellbeing," he explained.
One way of doing this is to invest in camping and caravanning equipment - these types of vacation are less expensive because accommodation is paid up for years to come.
In addition, Halfords currently has some great savings on tents and other camping equipment.
