A government trial of electric vehicles is set to see 100 electric cars available to families in cities across the country.
The cars will cost 2p a mile to run and are set to bring discounts on congestion charges - though will have a range of less than 40 miles before they require recharging, a Times article adds.
Speaking to the newspaper, transport secretary Geoff Hoon hoped that cars would appeal to most two-car families who primarily drive short journeys within the same city.
He said in the article: "A lot of people have a car for long-distance travelling and a small runabout for taking the kids to school. We need to find out whether electric cars are practical."
As the cost of motoring pinches motorists, Halfords is still determined to keep prices low for our customers.
Make the most of a third off selected roof boxes, meaning that the Halfords 580L Full Silver Roof Box is now a whopping £100 cheaper, at just £239.99.
