27/11/2008 - Subaru: Money to be saved by diesel engines

See our latest range Subaru's Boxer Diesel engine - available in the Legacy, Outback and Forrester ranges - offers economic driving, the manufacturer says.

According to the car maker, it can achieve 50.4 mpg in a Legacy Saloon and 44.8 mpg in the Forester, along with 148 g/km and 167 g/km CO2 emissions, respectively.

Known as Captain Slow on Top Gear, presenter James May drove from Basel, Switzerland to Blackpool, managing to get the Legacy 2.0D REn Sports Tourer he was driving to get 63 mpg.

Managing director of Subaru's UK operations Lawrence Good said: "The significance of this outstanding new Boxer Diesel engine to both sales opportunities and our dealer network cannot be overstated."

He continued to note the diesel market share in the country is now at 40 per cent, adding the range is "the answer to many loyal and potential customers' future motoring needs".
