Brits who enjoy nothing more than packing up the roof box on their car and heading off to explore new areas at home and abroad have been given some skincare advice.

HolidayExtras.com recently found more than a third (40 per cent) of people ignore holiday sun advice.

Commenting, a British Association of Dermatologists spokesperson revealed being solar savvy did not mean avoiding the rays all together.

Rebecca Freeman explained a couple of considerations can go a long way to protecting the body from the risks of skin cancer.

"Small amounts of sunshine are beneficial, helping the body to produce vitamin D," she stated.

"But all too often we over-do our sun exposure."

Ms Freeman added it is important to know how easily you burn and take precautions based on that information.

The expert explained protecting the body's outer layer with clothing, a hat and sunglasses could make all the difference.

She added around four in five cases of melanoma are considered preventable.
