Families in the UK are choosing to go on travel and touring breaks together more often.

The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) pointed out that while family holidays have always been popular, it is a trend that is continuing well into the credit crunch.

Kate Kenward, executive director at AITO, said places with family-friendly facilities and self-catering accommodation are likely to attract parents and children, who are increasingly wanting to see out the summer with one another.

She commented: "[Family] holidays are becoming more important as a way of spending quality time together without the distractions of today's busy lifestyle.

"They realise it’s impossible to put a price on the value of a relaxing break."

Travel and touring breaks both in the UK and abroad are attracting British holidaymakers, Ms Kenward added.

HolidayExtras.com conducted research, which show 42 per cent of consumers say being with their loved ones is the best thing about vacations.

Meanwhile, eating and drinking on holiday is the priority of five per cent of those surveyed.
