Bell 6 Litre Oil Drainer Can is rated out of 5 by 61.Rated 1 out of 5 by Lyndonosgood01 from Oil drain bottle I purchased this to use for draining a gearbox and it worked ok but made a bit of a mess which wasn't nice if you've ever smelt gear oil. I recently used this to drain the engine oil from my Volvo v70 and the oil drain bottle couldn't cope with the amount going in the bottle, it spilt everywhere and also spalsged off the top over my arms, tshirt and face. If you're going to buy this and use it be careful if the oil is hot as it will splash into you! Would recommend using a bowl or a more expensive pan!Date published: 2017-08-19Rated 1 out of 5 by Al81 from Not fit for purpose! Do not buy! It really is terrible. I thought this would be a good upgrade from an old washing up bowl. Wish I hadn't. The drain area and hole are not big enough to cope with the flow of oil from the sump. So it should out all over the brick paving drive. I even put down newspaper to prevent splashes, but that wasn't enough to cope with a deluge. Wish I had read the other reviews first, but I picked it up in store. There were also bits of plastic inside out from where the holes were drilled, not great for when you pour it out at the oil disposal facility.Date published: 2017-07-18Rated 3 out of 5 by Fizzoid1 from It does the job It does the job, and that's about it. People have complained about splashing and spillage. The oil collection part could probably be a bit deeper, and the 'slope' steeper that would help. Otherwise use a funnel. I found on mine there was still plastic blocking the holes where they'd been drilled out, so cleared that first and on my bike it worked fine. Picture shows it comes with a stubby pourer to empty it, mine didn'tDate published: 2017-06-19Rated 5 out of 5 by SteveDowns from Does what it says. It seems people are finding this difficult to use. If you're not sure how to control the flow of oil from your sump then maybe you shouldnt be doing the job? Yes the catch slope could do with being at a steeper angle but if you keep your dip stick and filler cap in place when removing your sump plug the flow of oil will be slow enough. If you keep the sump plug in your hand, then if you do get into mess you can easily pop it back over the hole and stem the flow....simple. It's a good enough product for the price.Date published: 2017-06-03Rated 4 out of 5 by Greym from You will still need a funnel This is okay, in the sense that it contains the oil after a change but don't use this for changing the oil in a car, I used it on a bike and even with the small sump plug diameter it struggled to contain the oil on the drain section so I can to drain the oil through a funnel directly into the hole on the top. I'd recommend a bigger open type sump drain pan for bigger jobs for sureDate published: 2016-11-20Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from Oil Overflowed and Ruined My Drive I used to have a different version of this oil can which had a deeper recess for the oil to sit in whilst it drained. This version is very shallow and the oil from my car overflowed almost instantly. My drive is on a slight slope (can was held level) so it poured all down the drive and after a few attempts at trying to stop it all I could do is stand and watch my tarmac drive being ruined. It took hours of jet washing and scrubbing with various drive cleaners over 3 days to remove most of the oil but it’s still clearly visible.Date published: 2016-08-17Rated 1 out of 5 by MB58 from Can't cope with oil flow Like other reviewers I found that the oil just diverted off the top surface which is supposed to direct the oil into the bottle, and ended up over my driveway and me. You'd be better off with an empty large Quality Street tin or similar. Don't buy.Date published: 2016-06-27Rated 1 out of 5 by Roddie1952 from Don't waste your money i bought this to replace a 30-year old similar but bigger version which had worn a hole on the bottom. I used it to drain 4 litres from a Seat Ibiza and it just could not cope with flow with about a litre ending up on the floor (and me). It might be OK for a motorcycle or lawnmower, but not a car. The design does not even let all that it does catch go through the hole into the pan. Will try again with a large funnel with taper cut as big as I can to fit the hole. If that fails, out it will go!Date published: 2016-05-30
