LOCTITE SI 5980 Flange Sealant is rated out of 5 by 24.Rated 5 out of 5 by DaveH3228 from High Quality Instant Gasket Recommended by a friend and I can see why - fantastic stuff!Date published: 2017-08-26Rated 5 out of 5 by Chris429 from This is one of the best sealants available for Oil pans This stuff is thick and black and tacky and sets to a semi hard consistency (impermeable pine tar-like) after about 30 minutes. Very similar to gasket sealant made by Permatex that I used to use on Chevy V8 engines timing covers and oil pans. This is not like other Silicone RTV sealants that set to a rubbery texture. There are some other options out there that are likely just as good ( JB Weld Red ) but stockists are not always easy to find. This is the stuff to use if you don't like puddles under your car. Cleans up with brake cleaner - as long as it hasn't set too longDate published: 2017-03-17Rated 1 out of 5 by Fredr21 from LOCTITE SI 5980 Flange Sealant It does not have excellent adhesive strength as claimed. When the flat surfaces are clamped together it just squeezes out leaving a bare metal contact.Date published: 2016-09-27Rated 4 out of 5 by CV11 from Let down by service Trying to find the right grade of Loctite gasket cement is difficult in telling the difference between the different product applications, but did some internet research and made my choice. The product was not ready for collection at the store, so the assistant went and took one off the shelf - at the till I read the box and realized he had not selected the product specified on the written order - just picked up a box. Was immediately rectified - but not impressed.Date published: 2016-03-28Rated 5 out of 5 by AirConEng from Just what I needed! This product is very good, used on stainless steel water filter housings for an industrial AC plant. I must point out that you need to go online and get the in depth data sheet as it takes upto 21 days of curing at room temperature to be at 100% of its strength rating (75% after 4 days). Good stuff.Date published: 2016-01-26Rated 5 out of 5 by george65 from brilliant product, replaces expensive paper gaskets Had an oil leak on a suzuki bandit motorcycle engine casing.removed casing, but snapped one bolt off.so rather than spending out on bolt extractor and paper gasket,I popped down to halfords and purchased a tube of loctite flange sealant.hey presto, been a couple of weeks now and no oil leaks.fantastic stuff.Date published: 2015-07-25Rated 5 out of 5 by Bobby79 from This product does what it say and goes a long way Just finished using the sealer on the gearbox sump gasket on my Hotrod with loads left in it so hope that this keeps if I have another job for it. Not really tested the car yet but can't see why it wouldn't do the job!Date published: 2015-06-18Rated 5 out of 5 by Scott44 from Great application - first time around Got this for a Ford Transit Mk6 sump pan... Excellent hassle free application, even comes with a key to wind it from the bottom of the tube...handy piece of the kit. Done job first time around, perfectly sealed no leaks at all. A few remarks on doing the sump pan tho 1. You WILL need a hammer of some sort & wedge/pry-bar/splitter to break old sump seal/gasket, mind the engine block is alloy so go easy. Start from crankshaft pulley side of engine at the front then work clockwise up the side and stop at corner. Then go back to front of engine & to the right of the oil cooler split again...and then along to front right corner....try applying downwards pressure to the sump at same time as splitting...it does come free with a bit of force. 2. Go round the flat edges of the block & the sump pan with a knife blade to remove old sump gasket....basically make sure it's as clean as you can get it and even clean the inner sump pan while your at it.. 3. Thin bead of Loctite 5980 (about 3/4mm) around the sump pan edge making sure u go round each bolt hole. DON'T put loads of sealant on the sump pan face as you don't want this getting into the oil pick up pipe. 4. When refitting, use the 4 nuts firstly to secure it back to block...then go round the rest of the holes with the bolts. 5. I left my sump to mate for a few hours before putting oil back into engine.... I'd advise this even tho the 5980 is oil resistant. Hope review is good enough for anyone wanting to attempt this....quite an easy job to undertake for the average home mechanic.Date published: 2015-02-07
