But only after I had to use brute force as well. 30 March 2012Saved me from a stripped-thread tuner nut! I needed to change tyres on some after-market alloy wheels with tuner nuts. They are the type with an internal drive and a 'key' that comes with them to tighten them up. The internal thread was completely worn flat so the key just spun in the nut. Picked up this set and in my lunch break from work I screwed the smaller of the two tools on and then used a telescopic wheel wrench to turn it. After a LOT of effort and a good 10 or so turns, the nut started to come undone and off! Fantastic! The reverse thread means all you do is screw it on anticlockwise then, with a ratchet/wheel wrench/pneumatic tool keep turning it anticlockwise. The thread on the nut bites in to the nut more and more until its grip is greater than the nut's grip on your car, at which point the nut starts to undo. Simple but very effective! I'm not sure I'll ever get the nut out so the tool could have been a one use deal but it was a lot cheaper than any alternatives! 19 March 2012Didn't work for me The tool didn't work for me. A used it on a Mazda mx5's locking nut but after hours it wast moving. This tool will probably work for people who have simply lost there original key. We had the key but the nut was very over tightened. Had to take it in to the garage and they had to drill out the nut. 26 February 2012Like hammerite, does what it says on the tin. Comes with 2 sizes, worked for me, had two BMW locknuts on, garages said I'd need to get the key from the main stealer, but I found this set. Took a but of effort (5 mins per stud) to wind on with manual tools, but does work! You will need to have replacement studs ready- you cant re-use the removed ones. Would recommend/lend to a friend! 29 January 2012Doesn't work As other reviewers have stated, if there is a rotating collar it will not work. Our wheel has recessed bolts so even more difficult to get a decent angle of attack. The idea is to deform the sleeve and bolt enough to prevent it from spinning. The torque required to unscrew the bolt was greater than the friction we could create between the surfaces. I tried for an hour , the RAC beat it for another 2 hours and eventually gave up and took the car to a garage. The did succeed using the same technique. Drilling out wasn't a good option - the bolts are made from case hardened steel, it would take for ever given you'd have to use a hand drill. 01 December 2011Laser Locking Wheel Nut Remover Great product, saved me a fortune removing my locking wheel nut after my key broke 19 November 2011THEY WORK I was a little sceptical about buying these but thought i would give them a go before resorting to more drastic action,to my surprise they actually work,removed all 4 lock nuts off my rav4 with ease,no need for air drive at 90psi if you get a little slippage give the wheelbrace a few knocks every 1/8th of a turn,to remove the nut i used mole grips on the lock nut then unscrewed not easy but worked ok, a vice would work better. 01 October 2011Rusty studs My task was to remove 12 studs 1" whitworth and 8 studs 7/8 whitworth from the cylinder ends of a steam locomotive. Stuck in there for over 50 years and rusty and damaged from others efforts with pipe wrenches. I used the smaller socket to remove the smaller studs with a dewalt 240 volt impact wrench. The larger socket bit onto the larger studs perfectly but the wrench was not powerful enough to turn the stud. Will be trying again with penetrating oil and heat. Both sockets were well made and undamaged afterwards 24 July 2011
