  • Boardman MX Sport Bike - 49, 54cm Frames is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality bike Bought this bike while it was on offer. It was either this or the Carrera hybrid which looked pretty good. I done my research and asked a few people I knew that were in to bikes as well as the halford staff in 3 different shops and all said get boardman so I did :-) I had to go to the Stroud store to pick the bike up as it was the closest store that had my colour and size which I didn’t mind as I go that way a couple times a week for week... I live near Swansea so gives you an idea how far... and I haven’t looked back. The bike is great! I’ve only used it three times for 30 mile runs and it rides perfectly although I would of liked it slightly faster if possible. The bike is light, solid with great brakes and overall a good ride.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for money I bought this bike as I have recently started working just a few miles from my home and wanted to start cycling to work. I went for a hybrid-style bike as I also want to be able to go on off-road rides during the summer months. This bike perfectly fits what I was looking for- front suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, and a little lighter than some of the other bikes I looked at (this one weighs in at 13kg- I found that bike that were a little cheaper were around 15kg). Also, I live in quite a 'hilly' area, so the 27 gears makes it easier to find the right gear for any incline. The tyres are a good width as well- quite slim, but not as slim as a full-on road bike. That said, the tyres are definitely more suited to road cycling than off-road. I attempted a short off-road ride last weekend which took me down some quite muddy paths- getting through 1 - 2 inches of mud is certainly a struggle as the wheels just keep spinning. Personally, I don't anticipate this being a problem for me, as I only really want to be going off-road in the summer when the ground is quite hard. All in all, I would say great value for money and no complaints- perfect if you are looking for a bike to ride on the road, with the occasional off-road excursion!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great bike. Lifelong cyclist, decided to get an up to date bike. Just had it 2 weeks, and only done 150 miles so far, but delighted with this bike. Not the lightest, but the benefit is taking the edge off poor surfaces, which abound ! Covers the miles as well as my old lighter bike with greater comfort. The quality of the Boardman design, construction and spec. is impressive, and as good as bikes costing £2-300 more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recommended Really good price for the bike you get. Reliable enough for commuting to work and cycling for fun. Boardmans never let me down if we are talking about cycles in thos price range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boardman M X Sport - goes like the wind! This is an excellent bike and a real pleasure to ride on the road and country byways. It's my 73 birthday present and fits into my weekly keep fit plan as a fair weather alternative to the gym. The gym bike experience is 'mindless' in comparison to a stimulating ride through the countryside. The quick release front wheel enables easy transport in the car and effective anti - theft bike parking in town. The gears are truly brilliant. Dropping down to the right gear whilst going uphill is effortless and the devise for changing up is simplicity itself. Right from the start it was smooth and easy. The hydraulic brakes are very effective. They apply instantly with light pressure on the levers and ensure confident cycling, especially when travelling downhill towards a junction or traffic lights. Used in conjunction with gears it's possible to change down to enable a smooth take off when the lights change. A really good bike. The bike buying experiense at Halfords in King's Lynn was also very good. I originally selected another bike not held made up in the store. I was notified when it was ready for viewing and had the chance to compare the two bikes. Thomas was knowledgeable and patiently helpful in assisting my final decision. We also had a good laugh.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Bike - cheap Accessories Very happy with the bike...quick, great brakes, gears not as good as shimano but very responsive. Good suspension lockout. Decent tyres (schwalbe). But handlebar grips are a bit basic, and the Bell was pathetic. So replace them for a tenner and all good. Slightly disappointing permanent mud guards don’t fit, but not the end of the world. Great bike for the money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyed the ride Last year I got back into hybrid cycling and bought a cheap Carrera Parva from Halfords in the sale at £170, that was a decent enough bike for what I did, saturday rides of around 20miles ish, round lakes, canals etc. I sold this in December for what I paid for it and waited until this year to buy an upgrade. I was all ready to blow £700 on a Specialized bike similar in spec and rode this and was returning to buy the next day. However, I popped into Halfords again and saw the Boardman MX on sale at £400 from £500. Few minutes later I checked the spec and couldnt justify the additional money on the specialized. First trip last week was good, 25 miles mixed terrain, tyres are much thinner than the Parva and the bike is a 54cm (im 6ft 3) fits me very well. Although the bike is the same weight as the Parva as it has discs it seems to roll better, probably due to the less resistance in the tyres so I can get good speeds up. My gearing isnt quite right so I need the 6 week service sorted. Be warned you need a good 20+ miles to bed the pads and discs in as there is nothing to stop you initially, after this they are decent. Handlebars are narrower too on the Boardman which means negotiating traffic and canals is better too.
