Boardman Mountain Bike Comp 650B - 16", 18", 19" Frames is rated out of 5 by 7.Rated 5 out of 5 by SMG591 from Great bike This bike is excellent.it has air suspension for comfort when going on trails and great breaking system for immediate breaking. Gears are great for tacklling tuff terrine. The seat is not as comfortable as it looks but when you start to get used to the bike it becomes slightly comfortable.Date published: 2017-10-12Rated 3 out of 5 by Maudit83 from Good bike, but some details can be improved (of the bike and the service) It is 2 days I have the bike than should be too early to do a good review. Anyway I will start with the details I did not like: Handlebar: too long...really exaggerate more for a downhill bike then a hard trail. Saddle: really uncomfortable for a MTB. Too big. Stem: too short and it look low quality. Gear: noisy, i think the set up is not good (the quality of the gear should be pretty good). The bike is really beautiful, but to be honest i am not happy for the set up made in the shop. Specially brakes and gear are not well set up. Furthermore I received the bike without instruction or a documentation from the manufacturer (of the bike, the fork and the cycle computer) that is the first time that I buy a new bike without any document. Info about size: i am 1.70m for 67kg. Size 16'' is perfect.Date published: 2017-09-18Rated 4 out of 5 by JMG19 from Excelllent purchase but change the saddle. First 27inch mountain bike I have owned after a lifetime on 26 inch wheels. It does roll better on the larger wheels and I also like the fact there are only two chainrings on the front. Works well. When reviewing comments on line when I was researching which bike to buy the saddle on this bike came in for much comment. My experience echoes the comments . You will need to change it., Otherwise I am really enjpying the bike.Date published: 2017-08-21Rated 5 out of 5 by Cookie14 from Boardman Comp An amazing ride, fantastic in all areas, only downside is the very uncomfortable seat.Would recommend getting an after market seat, otherwise fantastic.Date published: 2017-08-20Rated 4 out of 5 by Trigsy from decent bike i bought this bike for a change of ride to my road bike. I mostly ride trails, country roads and tracks anywhere from 6-20 miles. The seat is awful so get rid straight away is my advice, I also changed the stem for a shorter one to improve the fit and I also changed the wheels as an upgrade. Very happy with its performance and could ride it all day no problem, gets up hills no problem despite the 13kg. A tapered steering tube would make fork upgrades easier so I hope they change this on future models. I went for the 19'' as I'm 5'10 but should have gone a size downDate published: 2017-07-24Rated 5 out of 5 by Enjoi from Great Entry Level MTB Starting again with bikes after not being on one for over ten years it took some time to finally find a bike i liked! I have spent forever looking at "best bike under £750/£500" videos/reviews, and going to this website and that store trying to work out what was best and what had the best parts/frame/forks, yada yada, and i had been looking for so long i genuinely thought i would never end up buying one because this area of the market is so flooded! I had already set my budget and although i always kept coming back and looking at the Boardman, it was just too high a price for me to go to, so i kept looking at the Carrera Fury (which was reduced at the time) and the Voodoo Hoodoo even the Vitus, but couldn't get to see that as online purchase only. But after going to the store and finally sitting on the bikes, there was only going to be one winner and that was the Boardman. Thankfully for me Halfords had a flash sale and so i managed to get the bike in my price range and to be honest i couldn't be happier! THE GOOD: I opted for the Blue colourway even though i knew i liked the red version i took the risk, and after seeing it on collection, i'm so glad i did! The colour is stunning, and i love the fact the Boardman writing is so subtle. The frame quality is brilliant, the forks work flawlessly and the tires are grippy, The gears change well and the brakes have work well with everything i have shown them so far. Been out so far on a 12k cycle with my mate on his 29er and he managed to get a puncture and my bike was fine. It rides smooth, The bike is SO light i was actually pretty surprised! as i'm only just getting back into cycling i am far from the fittest but this thing made climbing a breeze! and even took the downhills in its stride. THE BAD: The seat is, quite frankly poor quality. Yeah you will probably switch it out anyway but i've only been out on my bike twice and even on collection where the black section of the seat meets the blue metallic part, the stitching is tearing the material and i don't see it lasting very long to be honest! Being a hard tail the ride is always going to be pretty rough and the seat is pretty killer after a short while of seat time. The other bad point is the grips. although with dry hand the grips feeling brilliant, as soon as you start to sweat or get wet hands, these grips become rather hard to stay a hold of. again, probably a part i will switch out as i have rather large hands and would prefer a slightly thicker grip. I should also add that at 6'2 and a bit i bought the largest frame size and i only just fit the bike at the lowest saddle height. doesn't bother me but just as a heads up to people! Overall i would highly recommend this bike however as apart from the seat and grips, i couldn't have asked for a better bike to get back into mountain biking with. I'm super happy i made this choice and would seriously tell anyone looking at getting a bike at this price point to try out the Boardman, and if it is just out of your price range, either wait it out for a sale or try and save that little bit extra as i'm sure you won't be disappointed!Date published: 2017-07-19Rated 5 out of 5 by Laridae65 from A confidence inspiring, more than capable bike Having had this bike for 2 weeks now, I can honestly say it is a complete pleasure to ride. The first weekend I had it, I went for a 20 mile hack on the South Downs and was impressed with the ease at which it absorbed obstacles and climbed the (very steep) ascents; The front forks (Raidon XCR) were superb with no travel on the ascents unless I needed it. Downhill, the bike came into its own. The wide handle bars and 27.5" wheels gave a confidence in the twists and turns that I didn't have on my previous bike; with steep and fast descents tackled with ease and at speeds I would not normally have achieved. The brakes were excellent with good feedback, and the gear changes slick and positive at each step a single "Click" rather than waiting for 10 seconds for the derailleur to operate. For the price, you could get a Voodoo or something else, but the welds show and for me, the lack of visible welds shows this bike has a build quality and component parts that demonstrates careful selection and attention to detail. In summary, It inspires confidence and I have been out on it every day for 5 miles minimum each time because I love riding it so much. I highly recommend it.Date published: 2017-06-18
