Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 137 reviewers.Rated 5 out of 5 by Jakeyy Brakes, comfort, Fat gear changing and light This Carrera Vulcan is a very good bike with brilliant features but it is good bike so it is likely to be stolen without a thick secure lock. Sadly mine got stolen after 8 weeks of having it but I recommend this bike to other users looking for a new bike 11 September 2016Rated 5 out of 5 by peasea Excellent all round bike A return to biking after many years. Bought this item boxed, only took 30 mins to assemble. Fantastic brakes, suspension and high tech precise gear changing. Knobbly tread tyres are great off road but still rides smooth enough on tarmac. Apart from the slightly uncomfortable seat, this is a top quality bike at a decent price. 20 August 2016Rated 1 out of 5 by Sathish35 Fantastic Bike - Only on Paper I bought this bike couple of months back at Halfords Redhill Store along with two other carrera bikes for family. Bought this after lot of research and Halfords vouching that this is the best mountain bike for beginners. - Hydraulic disk brakes, lockable forks, light frame, etc. I am a beginner and took it to about 4 trails so far and occassionally take it for local shopping. For most of the last two months, the bike has been at Halfords than at home for fixing the gears.Fortunately I have taken the 3 year service plan with it. First few times, they said they adjusted the gears but I should shift it while pedalling, softly and pushing the levers fully. The next few times the guys say they have adjusted it but the problem persists. The front gears crackle a lot (on soft pedalling?! either keep slipping or dont shift from 1-2. The gears are either totally cr@ppy or the guys dont know how to fix them. In all the front gears still dont work. Always fear the chain giving away when the gears crackle when shifting. The front brakes have been squeaking a lot, turning heads wherever I go. From reviews, I thought it was just new brakes that wears. It never did. The bike is still at the store and the guy called me this morning saying it cannot be fixed. I would say stay away from this bike and get yourself something better if you will be biking far from home. 17 August 2016Rated 2 out of 5 by GinG007 3 weeks and having to repair! Purchased this bike to see if I could get into Mountain Biking and riding a few trail centres. After the 1st time out I needed to repair the chain as it snapped. 2nd time out the gears needed re-adjusting. 3rd time out the rear deraillier hanger snapped, bolts sheared on the front cog and the chain snapped again coming down a section resulting in me having no chain and an 8 mile ride back to the car! I have just ordered some replacement parts to get it back up and running however I do question the longevity of this bike! 09 August 2016Rated 5 out of 5 by Chrise44 Well worth the wait to get the bike, and value for money. Well worth the money, this bike is the best I have had in a long time. I will now be buying two more for my daughters. 15 September 2016Rated 5 out of 5 by Uddeen Great Mountain Bike. This is an amazing bike for many reasons. Its light weight. The hydraulic brakes lock the wheels in an instant if you are not careful, so amazing. The gear changes on this bike are super smooth. The front suspension is super smooth and with the options to lock the rebound and adjust the dampening, it offers a very decent teeth chatter free ride. However I don't like the tyres. They are too thin, and I wasn't impressed. They don't offer enough traction on dirt and mud but are great on the road, and I didn't buy a mountain bike for the road. However this is an amazing bike and worth every penny, considering the setup you are getting for the price. 12 September 2016Rated 4 out of 5 by BobJRDobbs Good value mtb hydraulic brakes are excellent, worth the extra cost over Carrera Vengeance model for these as opposed to cable operated and the fork lock out facility. Matt black paint easily scratched on frame. Gearing is on the low side for road use; I never use the smallest front sprocket. Pedals cheap and had bearing issues from new , replaced. Gear change is acceptable . Worth considering the Subway 2 model instead if mainly road use. 10 September 2016Rated 4 out of 5 by DRF1 Very happy Bought as a replacement to my ageing (20 years+) mountain bike. Smoother ride and gear changes than I am used to. Brakes are powerful but progressive and much more consistent than the v-brakes on my previous bike. Bike seems well balanced and easy to manoeuvre for some reasonably changeling off road riding - although the handle bars are far wider than I am used to although this seems to be the trend on all the more modern bikes. Overall very happy with my purchase especially after looking around for several months and finding that similar spec bikes elsewhere seem to cost at least £100 more. Only minor issues I had was the delivery took longer than originally promised (but I was kept well informed) and once delivered there were some small issues with the build which took a visit back to the shop to get addressed. 06 September 2016
