Carrera Crosscity E Electric Folding BikeThe Carrera Crosscity Electric Bike is perfect if you’re looking for a reliable solution for your daily commute or fancy a bit of leisure riding with an electric boost. With a 313Wh battery offering up to 30 miles of power assistance on a single charge, this bike will more than cover the average commute. The battery feeds its power through a stable rear hub motor that can propel you to speeds of up to 15.5mph. Plus, because the battery is integrated into the bike, the Carrera Crosscity E has such a sleek, balanced design that many people won’t even know it’s an electric bike. One of the few giveaway signs is the USB port in the frame to help you charge your phone or power your lights. The light folding frame comes with a kick stand and rear carrier, for added practicality on the go. 8-speed Shimano Acera gears mean you can smoothly manage the power, and V-brakes offer controlled stopping when you need it. Completing this small but perfectly formed little bike are double wall alloy rims and Kenda tyres. You’ll have everything you need to take on the urban jungle with the Carrera Crosscity E.
MotorThe Carrera Crosscity is built around a Bafang rear hub electric motor system, seamlessly integrated into the rear wheel. The system is equipped with a Speed sensor, which automatically engages the motor once you begin pedaling to provide power assistance to your ride. As required by law, the motor will automatically stop assisting you once you achieve a speed of 15.5mph.
BatteryWith a hidden internal Li-Ion battery, weight is balanced providing an improved ride quality, over those with rear-mounted batteries. The battery is protected from the elements on the Carrera Crosscity, and a charging port is built into the frame for lights of phone charging on the go. With a battery capacity of 313Wh / 8.7Ah and a range of up to 30miles per charge the Crosscity is very capable on the daily commute or leisure ride. As standard on all Carrera E-bikes, the Crosscity comes with an integrated smart control system that protects the battery from overheating, short circuiting or overcharging. The battery re-charges in just 6 hours, and comes with a full 2-year / 500 charge warranty.
Note; The total travel distance will depend on the capacity of the battery, rider and luggage weight, power mode setting and riding style.
Head-UnitThe electric motor of the Crosscity is controlled via a multi-function LED display –offering Low, Medium or High levels of power-assist. The display / control unit includes an integrated push button to switch between the 3 assistance levels, alongside the power On/Off button. The display is located on the left side of the handlebar and its compact size reduces the risk of damage when in use.

Carrera Crosscity Electric Bike is rated out of 5 by 64.Rated 3 out of 5 by Zendoki from Ok but dodgy electrics Have had a lot of problems with this bike. The electric assist seems to turn itself off during a ride and today it just wouldn't turn on despite full charge. There's also no instruction manual for the electric part of the bike...Date published: 2018-05-17Rated 5 out of 5 by katewv12 from I love this bike :) I purchased this bike though the cycle to work scheme. I was looking for an assisted bike as my health is not great and the though of riding big hill to work on my mountain bike was not good. I picked the bike up last week i've used it a few times and I am so pleased with it I feel like I can go out and do things independently again. The bike is heavy but feels well built, the fold its ok like everyone else has said needs something to hold it together. The only gripe I have is the folding pedals they can flip back up when you first kick off it is annoying. I purchased some bungee cords for the bike so I can put my bag on the back and its very secure. I have rode the bike on road, grass, gravel, dirt track and lumpy pavement the bike is not the comfortable however I paid to have a wider seat with a bit of padding and its a lot more comfortable. I use the medium power at the moment however I will change that once my fitness improves. I would recommend this bike to anyone especially someone that's got a fear of hill or fitness, it allows you to gain the independence without the worry of sweating profusely or getting to knackered. Don't be fooled though the bike with need to be pedalled as this is what starts the electric motor but it kicks in very quick.Date published: 2018-05-12Rated 5 out of 5 by MJ2014 from Exactly what I needed - love it. I've owned this bike for almost a year and it is one of the best purchases I've ever made! I bought it to get to and from work as I wanted to cycle, but didn't want to have to shower/change when I arrive! I therefore use this bike on full assist, barely ever putting any effort in - just keeping the pedals turning round in a low gear. Using it in this manner gives me the advertised 15.5mph on the flat, and around 8mph on steepish hills. It's basically a very cheap (albeit relatively slow) motorbike for me! The battery gives me around 13 miles used like this, which is enough to get me to work and back. I'm sure the advertised 'up to 30 miles' is possible if you use the lower power settings. It lasts longer in warm weather, and definitely lasted longer in the winter when I charged it in the house, rather than our cold conservatory. It's not the best folding bike I've seen - it only folds in half, unlike a Brompton, for example, which has wheels that fold in as well. However, it does mean it'll fit in the back of my tiny car when required - and a Brompton isn't electric, so they lose there! This bike could definitely do with a clip to hold it closed when it's folded - I ended up buying a velcro strap to do the job, but it's not ideal. As others have said, it is relatively heavy to carry when folded, but I expected that with the motor and battery. All in all, a great little bike to get you from A-to-B and back again! It's far cheaper than taking the train to work and, on my 6-mile commute, quicker, cheaper and nicer than driving in rush hour!Date published: 2018-05-08Rated 2 out of 5 by Kaykay64 from Disappointing First electric bike I've owned and been bit of a nightmare. Firstly had an ex display one. Given wrong charger then battery wouldn't charge. Was kindly given an upgrade to this bike. OK first couple of weeks. Battery rus out quickly no where near 35 miles as described. Not that great up steeper hills even with full power. Then after riding over few bumps in the road handle bars started slipping down making bike very unstable. Now having to take back and see what Halfords can do with it. Not happy. Not the most stable bike. Only real use for it is riding from home to the train station and back if you can avoid bumps in the road. Think unless you can afford top of the range electric bike or do intend to use it simply to get to the train station or very short ride to work this bike is a bit useless.Date published: 2018-05-05Rated 5 out of 5 by TOS27 from A great bike ! If you are like me and read reviews as part of your research before buying a product then here goes. I read every review I could find on this great bike and watched you tube videos before I decided to buy it and I am not disappointed! The bike itself is very well made and it is solid. I read a few reviews that this bike it heavy and difficult to lift when folded. I did not find this to be the case and is lighter than my hybrid bike ! In terms of its performance, it is again excellent. I find that is very quick, on par with my hybrid. It has 8 gears which is great for various situations. When I am on a flat road, I would switch off the electric assist and pedal and I do not struggle with it. I feel it is just as quick as a normal bike and it is easy to pedal using the gears appropriately. When I get to a slight incline, I switch on the power and adjust it and the gears according to the steepness and then it goes like a dream. The gear change is also very smooth and they work well Having used it for a week of commuting to get the feel of the bike, I can say that the medium setting is adequate for most gradients, but if it is a really steep hill 25% gradient as you often get in Yorkshire, I use the high setting and this gets me up the hill. My advice is to test all the power settings with the gears and get the right one for you, but I found that on the low setting, the gear I use to get the electric assist is gear 3 or 4 max, and this would get you to a speed of about 10 mph. Then for the medium setting, I found that gear 5 is the best as you really feel the motor propel you forwards. This would normally get you to a speed of about 13 mph. On the highest setting, this should get you to a speed of about 15 miles an hour, but I only use this setting to climb very steep hills, I find the medium setting to be the best setting for slight to moderate inclines and it does push you forwards. A word of caution.. On the medium/high setting, be careful if starting up and coming out of a junction as it does propel you forwards quite quickly with only a very little turn of the pedal and you can quite easily end up in a lane of traffic. The brakes however will cut off the power immediately they are pulled so you can safely stop. If you use pannier bags like I do, then you do not have to worry. This was a concern for me when I got the bike as I used a pannier on my trek hybrid and I was worried the pannier bags would not work on or fit this bike. With a bit of adjustment of the supporting brackets at the top and bottom of the pannier bag, I was able to get it to fit my Carrera folding e bike with no problems. I do not like using back packs and have always used pannier bags, so I was pleased that I was able to get my bag to fit the pannier rack. Just adjust the pannier bag to the last setting so that the bag gives enough foot clearance. I have also filled up this bag and put it on the bike with no problems and it does not affect the balance. Just be careful if you put the pannier bag on the side of the gears, it may obstruct the movement of the gear cable which may cause the chain to come off the gear and get jammed. I use one pannier bag( which is adequate for me) on the left side of the bike where the bag will not interfere with the operation of the gears. In terms of the battery, my commute to work is about 10 miles a day, and I have to charge it every three days to ensure I have enough power and not run out of battery. I do however, as mentioned above only use the power on hills, so I could probably get another day out of it, but I do not want to find myself running out of battery whilst riding. I do notice that when there motor is ‘working hard’ on hills, I find the power indicator would drop a notch and will recover as the hill eases off. When the power indicator gets to one bar, and the motor is on high demand climbing a steep hill, I noticed the indicator will blink continuously. I presume this is warning you of the low power in the battery, and as other reviewers have mentioned, the performance does decrease the lower the power is in the battery, so it is wise to keep the battery charged up but they recommend the battery is charged only when it runs out of power. I have also used the bike in heavy rain that poured the whole 10 mile journey with no problems. Everything performed as it should, gears, brakes, power no problems. My work colleagues were very impressed with the bike when they first saw it, they were interested in its performance and the fact that it is a folding bike as well. It has inspired others to start riding to work. Well, I hope my review has helped you make a decision and helped you but as I found out, the best way is to try the bike for yourself and get used to the various settings on the gears and battery and the terrain you are riding in to ‘master’ the bikes performance to best suit your needs. All in all, a good bike and well worth the money and I recommend it,Date published: 2018-04-15Rated 5 out of 5 by Pogle47 from Fantastic Product! I love this little bike! The design is elegant and practical. The quality of construction, components, finish, and attention to detail are absolutely first class. On the road the bike feels solid and safe with none of the 'twitchiness' often found with a short wheelbase. I put this down to the build quality, good weight distribution, and the fact that (unusually for a folder!) both the bars and saddle are fully adjustable for height and pitch which makes it easy to find a comfortable and safe riding position. The gears operate smoothly and are wide ranging. The power from the motor is suprising and copes easily with my 6' 13 stone frame. Battery life and re-charge times are good. I cannot vouch for commuting as I am in my 70's and long since retired but the bike folds up quickly and compactly. I offerred to buy my wife one but she says she's happy with the bike she has. I think she will change her mind - it would certainly save us petrol! The instruction booklets are also good. All in all, money well spent!Date published: 2018-04-11Rated 4 out of 5 by farmergiles from Not bat Bought this bike back in august 2017 and so far its been ok apart from a few niggles. i ride 80 miles a week minimum so over 2500miles since i bought it. i use to get 17 miles full assist 9 months ago ,but now probally get 10 ,but to be fair im around 16 stone and have to come up 3 hills a total elacation of 500 foot.. The brakes dont last long and im on my 4th set, next bike will have to have disc. chain gua4d broke aftet a few minths and when pedaling real squeaky. All in all for a commute its great, but most i have had is around 18 miles.Date published: 2018-04-02Rated 5 out of 5 by Pedrocky from Amazing difference I live in Otley an area in West Yorkshire with lots of hills. At a very mature age I realised that the Apollo folding bike I owned was good on the flat but not for the hills around. I reviewed the electric bikes and came to the conclusion that the Carrera Crosscity bike was the one I would like to have. It has 8 gears and three settings for battery power assistance. I have had this bike for just over 2 weeks and am delighted with it. I go swimming locally and there is a steep hill on the way there. Using the battery power makes it so easy and now I find that I can tackle the steepest hills in the area and compete with friends riding a regular bike. This has given me much more scope for what I can do with this bike so I thoroughly recommend it. It is not light but I can fold it and lift it into the back of the car when we travel to visit the family. Wonderful!!Date published: 2018-03-17
