Will a Halfords standard service protect my MG warranty?
Yes. Our Halfords approved service has been developed to include many, if not more, checks than manufacturer service schedules. We use quality OE equivalent parts and suitable oil, helping protect your vehicle warranty without the need to visit a dealership. See our FAQs below for more information.
MG states that to qualify for the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th year warranty, the vehicle must have a full and accurate service history in line with MG Motor UK’s recommended servicing plan, using genuine parts and fluids to the correct specification. MG also states that warranty claims may be rejected where a defect is caused by non-compliance with recommended service intervals or maintenance requirements.
The main difference between a Halfords standard service and an MG manufacturer service is the schedule followed. A manufacturer service is tailored to your specific MG model, age and mileage, helping maintain your car in line with MG’s recommendations.

Original parts
An MG manufacturer service can help protect your car’s warranty, just as a Halfords standard service does. We will provide a bespoke quote using the same brand of parts as the original equipment manufacturer. These parts are usually more expensive than the quality OE equivalent parts used in a Halfords standard service.
MG servicing for petrol, hybrid and electric models
MG’s current range includes petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles, so servicing requirements can vary by model and powertrain. A petrol MG HS, a hybrid MG3 and an electric MG4 EV will each have different maintenance needs.

Our Full Service is a comprehensive annual service designed to support reliable motoring. It exceeds most manufacturer service schedules and includes 77 checks and adjustments, including an engine oil and oil filter change, air filter change, and top-ups of brake fluid, power steering fluid and coolant.
We use high-quality OE equivalent parts and check wear-and-tear items using a colour-coded reporting system, giving you a clear view of your MG’s condition.

Our Major Service is a complete 24-month service covering essential maintenance areas. It includes everything in the Full Service, plus additional items commonly recommended by manufacturers every two years, including cabin filter replacement and hydraulic brake fluid change.

Manufacturer servicing FAQS
Yes, Halfords offer manufacturer servicing for electric vehicles. We cover a range of popular EV makes and models. Please see table above for all models covered for this make. All our EV servicing technicians are highly trained, with specialist EV qualifications and use specialised EV equipment.
We are currently unable to update digital service records through our manufacturer service.
Block Exemption Regulations (BER) confirms non-OE parts do not invalidate any vehicle warranty [EU 461/2010] and that vehicle manufacturers must share technical information and specifications on all components with other parts suppliers. EU legislation aimed at helping reduce the costs of maintaining and repairing your car.
Original Equipment (OE) – can be an identical part as original or same design made by the same supplier but under a different brand.
These parts are designed to the same specification as OE parts and meet strict quality tolerance level set by BER along with all relevant legislation. We only purchase high-quality OE-equivalent parts from reputable UK-based suppliers.
Typically, we will use OE equivalent quality parts on our Halfords standard services available online. As covered above this does not invalidate your warranty.
Yes, but this is only available if you call your local Autocentre to get a quote. Our Autocentre will check the service you require for your vehicle and provide a specific quote which will use OE parts as standard.
If OE parts are available, we can provide a comparative price vs aftermarket parts. Bear in mind this will likely be a higher cost and may not be immediately available – please mention this when booking with your local Halfords Autocentre.
