About our range of sanding products and abrasives

Abrasive is a sharp, hard material that is used to polish soft surfaces. The material can be used for both internal and external car surfaces such as smoothing welds, cleaning the inside of pipes, removing any rust, roughening or smoothing surfaces, and prepping the car exterior before a polish.

Our range includes:

Abrasive Paper

Here at Halfords we stock a wide selection of abrasives such as abrasive sponge, abrasive sheet, and abrasive roll.

Made of aluminium oxide mineral grain, all our abrasive material is crease and tear resistant. Halfords abrasive rolls and papers have a fast sanding action and are great for car body repairs - opens in a new tab as they not only remove paint, but also help smoothen any scratches.

Sanding Paper and Abrasives FAQs

What is abrasive paper?

It's often called sandpaper. You grab it when a surface feels rough or messy and needs sorting out. It helps take off old paint, rust, or anything uneven so you can get it smooth again.

Is 1200 grit sandpaper fine?

Yeah, it’s on the finer side. You wouldn’t use it for heavy work. It’s more for the last bit, when you’re just trying to get a nice smooth finish before polishing.

What is 800 grit sandpaper used for?

800 grit is somewhere in the middle. It’s good when you want to smooth things out without going too hard on the surface. People also use it between paint coats so the finish comes out better.
