Acid Etch Primer review Quite expensive but the best stuff especially in a aerosol. Several very light coats and your done. Good value at Halfords. 17 November 2011
Good purchase Value for money. Very quick drying, nice finish after. 09 November 2010
u-pol etch primer good stuff for primering alloy wheels. after a mishap on one of the wheels i painted i had to reblast it, the paint came off leaving the primer in place which required going over again whith the blaster so it seems to stick pretty well 26 May 2010
Good etch primer Although its effectiveness needs to be tested when the item that I sprayed is used, this seemed to be a good-value product that went a lot further than I had expected. It formed a good surface on which I could apply a groundcoat and several top coats although I have no way of knowing how adequately it etched the steel it was applied to. 26 April 2010
Great for bodywork prep This product was recommended to me by a SMART body repair specialist. It is great for that first coat of paint onto bare metal - it will not flake off and goes on very evenly. 07 March 2010
No Clog paint This spray paint gave an even, smooth finish . The spray nossle did not clog at the end of the can allowing the entire contents to be used wthout leaving thet annoying little blobs at the end. 20 November 2009
good product not the cheapest but very good for respraying alloy wheels 24 May 2009
Etching primer Very good product. Easy to use, and leaves a good finish. Still works well when used again ie nozzle did not clog up. 24 May 2009

Hi, thanks for your interest in U-POL Acid #8 Etch Primer. The Etch Primer cannot be used in this instance as the primer will degrade with heat from the engine.

I am repainting the roof of my boat. I have removed all the loose paint by sanding it down. Most of the the paint has been completly removed but some parts are just sanded smooth. Will the primer cause this paint to lift/flake off? Can this primer be used over the wood and sealant that joins the wood to the fibre glass roof?

Answer:
The Acid 8 is recommended for use on G.R.P. and as it is a wash primer which should not cause any of the remaining paint to lift. Unfortunately U-Pol have no experience of using Acid 8 on wood and would recommend a propriety sealer is used before overcoating.

Answer:
U-POL Etch Primer will adhere to lightly abraded chrome and then apply a standard primer then the topcoat. Any pit marks in the chrome need to be filled before spraying as they will re-appear in the topcoat when dry.

Answer:
Only Very High Temperature paints can be used on exhaust manifolds (not the High Temperature brushing paints). It must be applied directly to the bare metal, which will need to be finely abraded first with abrasive paper. Applying it over U-pol etch primer would just result in the U-pol primer burning off and taking the VHT paint with it.
