ReviewsSnow Chains Size 60 5 5OK for occasional use I was glad that I practiced putting these on for the first time in good conditions - they are not the easiest chains to fit, especially if there is limited clearance between the wheel and the arch. When I did need them (on a hill approach to our station) I was very glad to have them - where other cars were struggling I was able to drive up the hill with no difficulty and they gave me a lot of confidence on a very icy surface. Some fitting tips: nothing to do with the chains, but I keep a rubber car mat as a kneeler in the back of the car - you're going to be down there for five or so minutes and in snow that's cold on the knees! Make sure when you've fitted them that the inner ring is centred on the wheel, and is not fouling anything (brake pipes &c). Drive a few yards then tighten them again. I keep checking the tension and never drive fast. The quality of the chains doesn't inspire long-term confidence - the reference in the manual to what to do if they break suggests that they are made down to a price rather than up to a standard. I see these chains as more for use in an emergency than for everyday use, and I will reluctantly join the many people around us who are trading up to a 4x4. All round then, an "entry level" chain that will get you out of trouble, but don't expect much more than that. 25 December 2010waste of money only used the chains one day and they broke twice.worked ok to get me out of my street but when i tried reversing the link that holds the chain to the wire snapped and disappeared.i repaired it with the spare supplied but that snapped also when i tried to reverse. 22 January 2010Amazing Product Once fitted driving becomes very easy, amazing grip and hills are no problem on compact snow. the best thing I've ever bought for my car. 13 January 2010snow chains i got the chains last week and i must say they are better then i thought they would be they hold the road very well no slipping the back end might slide but the front keeps u firm on the road .....the only thing i dont like is putting them on not easy at all ....untill i found a better way i jack the tyer up and then put them on so much better then trying to drive the car on to the chains ......in weather like this everyone should have a set i would be lost without them as i live on top of a mountain where the snow is thick without the chains i would not get off here to shops and so on ......rate ten out of ten 05 January 2010Iceblok Snow Chains Absolute rubbish. 100% waste of time and money. Fitting them was fairly simple even in heavy snow but they made no noticeable difference at all. The car was unable to grip in about 2 inches of solid snow. As the wheels spun the chains broke, came off and wrapped themselves around the drive shafts and I had to abandon the car and walk home in the snow. As a rule of thumb never buy anything that includes the phrase "if the chains break then stop your car and use the spare links (enclosed) to repair them" - in the instructions. 04 January 20101-5 of 5
